Hey @jakemore, I quite understand your point of view.
But I want you to look at things this way. In the end, it doesn't matter whether you are a whale or a dolphin or a minnow...what matters is what value are you bringing to Steemit?
Let us all ask ourselves that question.

That's where we all get it wrong. Upvotes depends mainly on popurlarity and existence on the platform. Newbies write good content and get peanuts while some dolphins and whales share something unworth their rewards.
