Never use your Master Password to login on Steemit please!

Think most are aware about some of the important security rules on this platform but just to repeat it given it happened to friend of mine that got hacked and the account was stolen. There is not much one can do apart from really being careful on some things.

  • NEVER click on any link in any post, comment or wallet message before you did not investigate it is no phishing attempt Mouseover them to ensure you are aware where they link you to. If you are not sure - do NOT click.
  • NEVER use your Master Password to login on Steemit - as DEFAULT use posting key! ALWAYS - only use Active Key for financial transactions - put your Master Password in a safe place (password manager, paper, engrave in a stone (but keep it somewhere no one has access!), put it in more than one safe places but make sure NOT to tell anyone where this is!
  • KEEP ALL your Keys in a safe place!
  • If you got hacked - use the Stolen Account Recovery tool immediately!
  • Let others know your account has been hacked via the channels your connections are active so the can inform the community!
  • Report scammers on https://steem.chat/channel/steemitabuse

BE CAREFUL - Do NOT DRINK OR USE DRUGS WHILE working with Keys

And put Water, Tea, Coffee and other liquids also far away from your device - it can destroy a lot. Make sure all data from your device is backed-up as well.

Man can't warn often enough!!
thank you for your memory, that is really important, no matter if new or already old Steemian.
Cheers 🤠

And put Steem holdings in savings.
Takes 3 days to transfer back so you will notice if someone has access.

Also an option to consider, thanks bud

Hm. I suppose there are still a lot of newbies fall into the same trap?

Not only newbies - I am an old fart and know all the stuff - what I did miss e.g. recently to save some other minor keys that were on my laptop only. After a water damage I realized i have to BACKUPS :-).

Great advise @uwelang resteeming!
Hope you and your beautiful family are well, it has been a while.

Thanks darling - the girls are out of the country for vacation while I have to do the unpleasant stuff 😎

Thanks for your great advise i resteem your post for more people which people will be carefull to read you blog...

I have been hearing this every now and then, but always failed to do the right thing. Seeing that so many people are taking the effort to educate us steemians, I won't be as lazy this time.

Thanks for the message @uwelang

wow it is great

Yeah, I should pay more attention to this.
I was wondering how does the stolen account recovery work? Can they disable it and just send you new keys? It doesn't seem to be that easy.

Not that easy but it works - you have to be quick though given the 7 days frame. But if you know where to go to all doable.

Thank you for the advice
