Things have been a bit quite over at Blogger Central as many of our members have been on vacation or catching up after returning from Steemfest2. So, I'd like to do some editorializing sitting here in Starbucks.

Steemit

I've just finished up reading a post by @dannyshine found here. In the post he voices legitimate concerns about the Steemit platform, it's founders and us users. It's one that has been asked many times over, is the system rigged against minnows and dolphins. The answer is yes and no. Without going into too much detail there are two ways to look at it.

Whales own Steemit and we are at their mercy, making them more money and building the platform for them through content and promotion. This is basically true, but if you let that stop you then you will always be handicapped in life. I lived far too much of my life believing I was being screwed and it was some affluent person's fault. When in reality I had every opportunity to be successful, I'm white, came from a middle-class family and attended college. The reason I am not rich is because I wasn't ambitious enough and to be honest money wasn't my priority.
The second way to look at it and that is we all have the chance to make it here if we put the time and effort into it. Screw the whales. No one is holding us back unless you get on some whale's radar, even then many people will step in to help resolve conflicts. Everyone knows in life if you put in the time and effort into something you will eventually become successful.

On edit - good lord, you know how lucky we are to be here and now making money posting? Think about the effort put into Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, your own blog for what? Get at it, hit us up and we'll do our best to support you!

Now, pointing out problems within the system and with users is completely appropriate and necessary, but it should not preoccupy you, unless that is your mission. When something comes up, address it and hopefully the community will agree on a solution. The white paper says it is up to the community. In the meantime, do your best and the rewards will come, just like in real life.

We've been busy upvoting content with the Steemitbc account. Branching out from our own community and upvoting new users as well as existing users. At the end of the month @paualg will do her monthly report and we hope that will shine a good light on our efforts.
