They get to feel the environment of the software and learn the different tools the software could offer. Then they get to play around the editing of their own pictures :)
All the courses mentioned above will be scheduled all throughout the summer period. It usually runs from the 2nd week of April until the first week of June. Each year the community will identify a maximum of 50 residents that are willing to learn the courses. They will register with us and then have their ID's for school entry purposes.
Each course is handled by one or two of the faculty members of the college voluntarily. When we say volunteerism the faculty don't get any monetary return of the time they shared with the program. In every course, other then faculty who is the main resource speaker, there are alumni of the college who as well spend time with us during the sessions. Again they are without pay. Added to it are our student volunteers who spends their own time and effort and money to volunteer and be of assistance to the faculty in charge. So basically the entire program is through the cooperation, willingness, volunteerism spirit (bayanihan), and dedication of the people who wants to take part of it. Everyone gets to share such wonderful feeling of having to give back through others the blessings we get to enjoy the entire school year.
I know what you're thinking, it's summer once again, will we have another batch this year? Hopefully if there will be residents who is willing to learn about technology then most probably another round of the program will happen anytime soon!
It's been a great 7 years of participating in the program and I do hope as another coordinator would open this years another round of activity may I be invited still to volunteer and share. It is always a good feeling when you share a part of yourself to others and be able to help them in our own little ways.
