My Meeting With @Surfyogi at SIN 2 and the Importance of community building

in #community5 years ago

We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community. Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and need of others, for their sakes and for our own. - Cesar Chavez

The above words have a lot to do with @surfyogi, his vision, dreams and personality. I was pretty excited to meet with him during the just concluded SIN 2 event at Abuja, Nigeria.

I must say that one of the exceptional moments of the conference for me was getting to meet with @surfyogi at his apartment. He welcomed me like a brother and we got talking for a couple of minutes.

We talk about a number of subjects all relating to Steemit, cryptocurrency and blockchains. @surfyogi is friendly, welcoming and very outspoken. But more remarkably to note, he is sound, sensitive, intelligent, compassionate, caring and very optimistic, especially about Steemit and steem.

During our conversation, he was also particular about finding out how I discovered Steemit. So he asked me..

Tell me, how did you find Steem?

And I went on to share my story with him of how I found steem, likewise he did same by sharing his own story too.

@surfyogi is a man of good will and good heart. And as such he understands the importance of community building through the empowerment and engagement of individual members.

Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons working together. - Paul Ryan

This positive attitude of his towards community building and empowerment of individuals is enough reason to explain why he's so passionate about communities and people. And as such his resolve to come to Nigeria to spend time with members of @wafrica Team and also attend SIN 2, largest annual gathering of Nigeria's blockchain community.

@surfyogi is the founder and sponsor of @wafrica and @artzone. He has also been a developer and has worked on several blockchain online projects and DApps.

One Steemian who is very passionate, hopeful and optimistic about Steemit is @surfyogi. Despite the evolution of other social media blockchains he still believes that steemit remains unique amongst them. However, he's pretty much excited about the emergence of other social media blockchains.

This is one man I would really like to work with in the future. His insights and perspectives towards issues are apt. One thing I like about @surfyogi is his ability to look at people and discover their untapped potentials and help them explore it. This gift of his is what I consider divine. And that's why all his projects are doing well.

A community is not a community if it cannot offer protection to the weakest of her members. Surfyogi understands the power of one single individual, and that why he painstakingly invest into virtually everyone he feels could be useful to the community at large.

His love for Africa and Africans is unparalleled. This is what drives him into creating projects like @wafrica that aims at showcasing the talents, lives and challenges of the West African people.

One of the things I learnt during my conversation with Surfyogi was the need for one to equip his or herself with so much knowledge about the blockchain and cryptocurrency. The need to become very literate in this aspect so to speak. I realized that no matter how you try to talk some people into the blockchain and crypto business, they still find it extremely difficult to grasp. A certain level of exposure or literacy is demanded for one to understand the basics about this.

The connection, kindness and bond Surfyogi has created with the African community, especially the Nigerian Steemit community is one that will take long for us to forget.

The need for connection and community is primal, as fundamental as the need for air, water and food.

He was also one of the speakers at the just concluded SIN 2 event, addressing Nigerians Steemians and creating connection with them.
His presence in this event, undeniably gave Nigerians Steemians a lot of moral and community support. This was exemplary of quality and committed leadership.

I want to encourage Surfyogi to keep up with this good works, and to let you know that you've inspired and set the pace right for many of us to be there for people, and become even more interested in building communities. I admire what you've done as well as your personality. Well done Jeff
