Steemit Betting Community Bot | Term Of Use Suggestions

in #community6 years ago (edited)

This month has been huge so far for the Sports Betting Community here on Steemit thanks to @beat-the-bookies who set us up with a Discord Server and a working community support Bot (@sbcbot) which was created and mostly funded by @stimp1024. All this was done in about a week which is insane and many more things are to come to enhance our community.

Right now the bot is already giving out ~0.10$+ upvotes. Since we just got started and the amount of actual sports bettors here on Steemit is very limited, the "Terms Of Use" are very soft.

  1. You must be on the list of steemians that the bot follows
  2. Your post must be sports related
  3. Written in English
  4. Tagged with sbc

To make the entire support project we got going on more long term scalable and free from abuse, I would like to make some general "Terms Of Use" suggestions of things that should or should not qualify to use the bot on.

  • The idea of having a whitelist is great as it creates a real sense of belonging in this community. Something that could be done is to make a trial list for members who want to join. They would start off getting smaller upvotes and move up to the bigger ones over time if what they live up to some of the requirements. This should prevent the bot from being drained. The way I see things, people who occasionally make posts about sports betting should also be welcome as long as they bring some value to this platform . Some of the ways people can give value to this community that can get them whitelisted...
  • Being Active in the Community
(Social interactions is what makes Steemit great)
  • Supporting Others
(Keeping voting power at 100% at all times is an issue)
  • Quality
(Someone who is able to provide profitable bets or insights)
  • Posts that make use of the bot should all have some relation to Sports Betting (reference to the odds) without the requirement to actually contain bets. There are plenty of reasons for Sports Bettors to join and give some value to Steemit aside from posting actual picks. Some of the things that come to mind...
  • Actual Bets
  • Bettig Previews | Roundups | Reports | Info
  • Betting Related Articles
  • Personal Record Keeping | Tracking
  • Steemit Betting Community Related Posts
  • Sports Related Contests
  • System Tracking
  • ...
  • One of the more important things when it comes down to posting bets is Record Keeping which is something very few people actually do. Without it, posted bets are just random and totally meaningless and often produced in under a minute. For posts with just bets in them it should always be manditory to keep an accurate record. This can be done on a Daily | Weekly or Monthly basis, but it should always be possible to easily be able to check the complete record. This can be done with links to result roundups from previous months. I would make this a very clear rule for anyone who just posts bets (NO RECORD = NO UPVOTE)
Longer write-ups that contain a lot of info and some potential bet suggestions should be fine even though this will not always be a clear line.

  • Making Profit should in my opinion Never Be A Requirement. What differentiates Steemit from most other online to make money from betting related content is that it's not done through selling picks or info, but by the overall community support. In the end, very few people are actually profitable when it comes down to sports betting. This is one of the things that might make Steemit very attractive for Sports Bettors.

  • Sharing bets and keeping a stats is something very hard to do because most will end up having a negative record, get ego triggerd and look for ways to manipulate things to get into the green. (even I get these urges at times, but never act on them) There are plenty of ways to do so right now. counting the record wrongly, using odds that are not available, chasing with much higher stakes, ... From what I konw @acelad is working on a unified way to post bets which sbc members will have to use which will already make a big difference! Putting Up a Reward for anyone who spots a scammer might be an options even though I'm not sure it's the best idea.

  • Original Work
The idea behind this community is to have as much Original Betting Related Content as possible here on Steemit. Copy-Pastes from websites should not be what this is all about. Plagiarism and making use of pictures that have copyrights on them might also be an issue. ( When searching google for pictures always go to advanced setting and choose "Free to use or share" or use websites like Pixbay for the use of your pictures or create them yourself )

That's about it, to sum things up:
Being somewhat active in the community and keeping and honest record when posting just bets while bringing original content should be some basic requirements to be part of this new Steemit Betting Community.and make use of the @sbcbot

Current whitelisted SBC members that are followed by the @sbcbot

It would be nice to get some feedback and opinions...

Sort:

I'm of the same mind as you @costanza.

What's left is to finalize the technicalities before we put this new ToS on @sbcbot.

I agree that the profitability shouldn't be the requirement, but I'd like to use the liquid funds of the bot as the reward for those that perform the best on weekly/monthly/... basis.

In order to track the members of our community, I'd create a league competition. To enter you have to put the post containing your picks in the comment, to qualify for the reward at least two such posts have to be made per week, eight per month...

Cannot agree more :-). Thanks to both of you !

Seems very interesting, I would like to be a member of the community, as I´m writing about football betting and statistics. Little less activity in last days from my part, too much work, but hopefully get better in near future.

Make sure you check out our discord channel, we are just getting started for now and a lot of things need to be sorted out. The main idea is to provide some support to people on steemit who make sports betting related posts and meet the minimum quality requirements while building a community where everyone is better able to grow.

Nice to see you checked out the discord channel lawlees! More about the group will be rolled out as we progress. make sure you follow @beat-the-bookies and @sbcbot for the latest news on our project.

Followed them, thank you. Looking forward for the success of this project.

Awesome so wont be using #SBC when the topics aren't sports related! Cheers guys.

Read this, support a system of record keeping for those who want to post bet ideas, but really not sure what we just read. Just tell us where to post our bet ideas, along with commentary, and we'll be there bright and early, at least, obviously, for basketball season anyway.

Bet Size is most important, must allow for punters to vary the bet size and type. One size doesn't fit all. We had some rather big bets on New Orleans in the playoffs that first series, but some very small ones tonite (Indiana moneyline, toronto moneyline, Utah moneyline tonite are all small bets for us, at 0.5% AUM or lower).

Sport Specific Stats

We're very good in NBA basketball, over 35% gain on capital so far this season, but terrible last season in football (both college and pro). Luckily we don't spend much money on football bc we don't know it like we know basketball, but our point is that the "record" would be more useful if it also broke out the sports. Some guy might stink overall, but be fantastic in golf, right?
