My comment on: Iran bans English in primary schools after leader's warning
Firstly, it must be said that this is only at primary school level. Presumably, for older age groups, there is no ban.
Secondly, we've seen a ban on the burka in some European countries and lots of Europeans complaining about their culture being changed by Islamic immigration.
I don't like bans unless they are absolutely necessary, but I fail to see why this decision by Iran is newsworthy to the extent that it is shown on the front page news-feed of Reuters. Anyway, the ban by Iran can only be detrimental to itself as English is a basic requirement for international trade and diplomacy.
Iran has banned the teaching of English in primary schools, a senior education official said, after the country’s Supreme Leader said early learning of the language opened the way to a Western “cultural invasion”.
