Comic Book Art: The Never Ending Portfolio

I think every comic book junkie has, at one point or another, sat down with paper and pencil and attempted to draw some of their favorite characters. Some of us just never stopped (it's a dreadful compulsion --- I assure you). When you are technically proficient enough --- you might even find yourself revisiting some of your childhood favorites --- like this Star Wars cover:

My original copy is in bloody awful shape (it looks like it was used as bedding by a family of feral badgers) but I made myself a poster-sized replacement and it only took 20 hours of drawing time (like I said - it's a sickness).

Sometimes faithful detailed reproductions aren't as fun and I find myself doing things like this:

Where I took a fairly iconic cover and reformed it into one of my current themes (this one being the Medieval "Death and the Maiden" motif.

Sometimes I'll just amuse myself be using a single panel or image from one of these old books as a huge 24" x 18" standalone piece:

Or this Zombie take on the old Sea-Monkeys ad!

Or this single page of a Vampirella Comic that I re-drew and now hangs as a canvas in my studio.

I have SO MUCH of this material just laying around doing nothing. I'm happy I have the opportunity to find a way to try and organize it and present it to a brand new audience!
