Comic Book Collection: Marvel Mystery Comics #2 (1939)

in #comics6 years ago (edited)

Today it's time for something a little different. Presenting the oldest comic book in my collection, the second ever published by Marvel. The U.S. was not yet directly involved in WW2 at the time, hence that kinda-pseudo-swastika on the planes (the original) Angel is going after.

The history of comics as a galvanizing force for U.S. entry into the war is fascinating. I'm proud to have traded for this book (and ten Harvey pre-code horror books!) with merely a low grade X-Men 1, a book that I love -- and later picked up in higher grade -- but grows on trees in comparison.

Nice savvy trading.
This is so cool. I love to think about how comics played into history and propaganda. It's such an interesting cross over.

For sure. The Golden Age of comics, as they call it, it was indeed !

Amazing. I know I am only looking at a pic, but just based on the cover it looks like this should have easily been higher than a .3. Holy hell though, a little piece of that Golden Age era, what a cool book.

I still would have kept the X-Men 1 like a dern fool lol.

The reason is the color copy cover ! : ) And the X-Men was a 2.0... having received some sweet PCH books to boot, that trade was won hehe.
