The Batman Who Laughs Returns

For me, personally, there is nothing more terrifying in current comic book mythology than the Batman Who Laughs. Hailing from Earth -22, The Batman Who Laugh, this past summer, was ultimately who got me back into comic books. The scene where he has Superman and Jonathan Kent kill off Lois Lane and one another with black kryptonite? Wow. The look on the faces of the Justice League realizing they are facing an apathetic Bruce Wayne? Insane. The Batman and Joker teaming up to attempt to dismantle Earth -22’s Batman from destroying the multiverse? Unexpected, and equally insane. The story was so good, I remember thinking I was going to get caught up on my Dostoevsky on our family’s summer vacation near Hayward, Wisconsin. You know, that romantic notion that you have the dog, your little girl, your wife, and an AirBNB cabin for a week in the north woods to relax and read…you know, get caught up on stuff like Dostoevsky?
No luck.

I think I read a blur on a Google machine article about the Batman Who Laughs the first day, there, and then proceeded to drop over $100 reading all of the digital comics related to the Dark Knights Metal storyline…and I was blown away. The Batman Who Laughs? How insane is this fictional character? Very insane!
As we move into NCBD 12-12-2018, we are given the opportunity to empty our wallets on a number of variant covers for the new title, * The Batman Who Laughs #1 *. What’s out there? Let’s review!
Jock Cover
One you can get for cover price; look at those teeth. Look at those colors. I will be picking this one up straightaway at 11 am, US Central Time, next week Wednesday.
Capullo Cover
Repeating from last sentence… Look at those colors. I will be picking this one up straightaway at 11 am, US Central Time, next week Wednesday. You can get this one at cover price too.
Mattina Variant
Limited to 3000 copies I believe, the trade dress can be found at frankiescomics.com for $12 USD.
Dell’Otto Variant
Also limited to 3000 copies, this one is going for $35-$70 USD presale on Ebay. I love it, but have to pass.
Warren Louw Variant
Probably a hit with the Harley Quinn cult. Not a personal favorite of mine.
Mike Mayhew Variant
This one you can get for $25 - $30 USD on Ebay.
Desjardins Variant
This one is released on 12-26 and is going for $40 USD online.
Sienkiewicz Variant – Midtown
People are paying more than $20 USD on Ebay for this one, but you can still get it for $12 on Midtown.
Kirkham Variant
Is this Dick Grayson’s Batman, from the Tom King’s Booster Gold days? Or something new…something grim, something like the Grim Knight? We’ll find out next week. Limited to 1500 copies, and is going for around $40 USD on Ebay too.
Parillo Variant
Suayan Variant
Migliari Variant
Tony S. Daniel Variant
Natali Sanders Variant
This one is pretty cool with a 900 copy limit. This one is in the $50 USD range.
Clayton Crane Variant
I like Crane's work, especially on more inexpensive variants like his Justice League Dark's of late. This one is in the $70-$100 USD range. Yikes!
Greg Horn Variant
Another one with Quinn; this one is around $20 USD.
Jock Variant
This one is nasty! The Grimm Knight in the dark of the abyss. Going for $20 USD, and I think I might get this one.
Another MICO SUAYAN Variant
Jeez, how many variants can we get already!? This one is around $30 USD.
Now there are multiple versions of a few of the above (different colors, virgin, trade dress, etc. etc. etc.) Not being rich off of my 21 Litecoins sold last month, I won't be able to buy most of these. Which ones will I get? I'm going to with:
- Jock Cover A
- Jock Variant
- Capullo Cover B
- Sienkiewicz Midtown variant *
- Mattina variant *
If I am feeling frisky, I might get the Dell'Otto variant too. Yet I probably won't. But I might.
Also, I'd recommend picking up last week's Justice League comic book; there is Batman Who Laughs teaser near the end that is intense. Good luck to everyone looking for these!
