Sketching Phill from GCHQ

in #comics9 years ago (edited)

I have tried out different ways of creating my comic about Phill from GCHQ which, if you haven't noticed I am posting here on Steemit whenever a new page is ready. Right now I do a combination of page breakdowns and complete anarchic improvisations which actually work quite well.

Sometimes when I have some time to kill in inadequate places I have a small sketch book that I together with a shabby ball-pen use for working on immediate problems. All in all I do not adhere to too many rules with this enterprise, but relies on experience, routine, and lot of bother. A lot of the sketching simply happens when I ink... a thing that can only happen when you have a digitizer with undo and perfect erase :)

None the less I do of course make sketches on paper and I thought that it could be funny to show. Below are some random sketches (chosen because they were the least unfocused phone-photos) and the final inked drawing below.

The sex therapist- I just copied the sketch into my breakdown and worked on from there.

The historian - I tried a few things, this is the one that worked. I couldn't get it right, but then I tried to do J.R.R. Tolkien and it ended up looking like John le Carré, which was kind of perfect for a spy-comic :)

Thank's! I will look in to it tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing those. It's really interesting to see how you develop your pieces.

Yes, it gives a small look into how I go about things. But as I wrote most of it actually happens through multible jumps between inkscape, that I use for texting, and the different Krita layers. I might try to do a more comprehensive look into how I do, but the documentation will take some planning. I will start thinking about it, just like I will with these collaborative art challenges. I am not sure I really did understand the latter, but I guess I will have to look at Ever... green? ... whatnot? for a better understanding.

Right now I wil try to finish page 13 :)

I'm really looking forward to getting a more detailed look into your workflow sometimes in the future. As you might have noticed, I'm already a 'fan' of your work. Those collaboration offers are just a way to engage more people to actually use your work to build on it. As you are already releasing your works under CC-lisences I thought you are interested in seeing what others might do with it. It's not a big deal, just an idea. Can't wait to see page 13 - Keep it up!

I will make a post about the making of the next page... probably make some more posts. I have a tendency to get to ambitious and create giant posts about all too complicated subjects.

Now I better understand what collaborative posts mean, thanks, and a good idea. I do like my things to get used in any way possible so I might make such a challenge soon.

Interesting and neat to see the amount of detail that even goes into the sketches you do.

Yes, most definitely ... excellent work. I recommended this for SteemVoter consideration. Thanks for posting!

Thanks. I guess that I have become to steemit-old for Curie-votes and I am still to steemit-young to get more than 10-15$ on my own, so that's much appreciated. I am here for the money :) ... as a means to be able to make this more permanently.

You deserve credit for admitting that you're interested in the money part. I think most of us are ...

Most artists have think about the money part. That's what it is like to have a small business :)

Cool art! Thanks for sharing this great post, Katharsisdrill.
Upvoted & Followed.

Nice works :) Upvoted and followed :) I am looking foreward to seeing more of this :)

There will be more, I promise. Next page in the comic is ready in a couple of days or so...
