The almost 50 year old comic shop, Fantask in Copenhagen was planned to close down in June after bad sales. The internet and the large competitor, Pharao’s Cigars, has been hard for this wonderful little shop. But now people have in 1 day raised almost 45,000 € Enough to make the shop survive.

I am a regular customer in Fantask, (yes I got an almost full discount coupon booklet) so I hope that people will use this to remember to visit the small shop more often. Actually it goes for every city, town, village and hamlet that we should use the small shops instead of just ordering it on Amazon or buy it in large malls.

Congratulations, that's something to celebrate! Those kinds of little shops are such a wonderful part of life, and it's sad to see them vanish.

There was once a CD shop in Munich I would always visit when I went there. There was a Spanish fellow who loved music, and knew it very well. He had so many unknown treasures that he could point out. Once he got a sense of a customer's taste, he could make excellent recommendations.

I remember telling him about being on a bus traveling in India and the driver played a tape of music that was a mix Indian music and Western music. I wanted to know if he could recommend something. These were the two albums he turned me on to, still favorites of mine.

Sadly, the shop is no longer there.

I'm using a upvote service on your post, so you can put that upvote in your fund.

Thanks, mate! I will add it to the almost 75,000 € they have received. Next step will be to organize some of all these people in an obligatory club or something. People are really interested in comics again and if some of all these people knew that they should buy for 200 kr. a month it would also be a good thing for the comic artists. This place always accepted fanzines by anyone and helped out in the Danish comic community.

It seems people have volunteered to help out with organising such things... If only all the other shops in the area could get something similar. The ridiculous prizes are just as bad as the internet, when it comes to killing these places. My wife has a shop nearby, but the house is owned by a cooperativ (which is common in Denmark - my flat for example) and that would help a lot if more of the houses could be taken over by the ones using them...

Sorry about the shop in Munich - it seems to happen all over the world. People buy more and more mainstream while trying to make to opposite image on social media.

In shops like these you get to hear expert opinions (often very personal and biased) and you get advice based on knowledge...

Wow 75k that's amazing and wonderful news. Really glad to hear it!

Haha, objectifying is only bad when men do it!

Incredible really, closing in on 80,000 $ - One thing they have in Fantask is women behind the counter. Here's a tour of the shop by Margit, the owner. The shop always had this cave-like feel to it.

Great shop!

And now Yusef Lateef is running wild on youtube!

The dark side of amazon.... hope the shop will do better in the future. A good comicshop is imho important in a city :-)

It is indeed. Now it is time to organize as many of these backers so they will buy a bit of comics once in a while - it would probably be possible to make them do the organization themselves... Danes love to organize.

wonderful to see this tonight - it's great to see people rally around a store like this in this day and age. thanks for the share

This is a very meaningful thing you're doing. Resteemed.
