RE: Spawn: A Look at a Year’s Worth of the Coolest Homage Covers

in #comics6 years ago (edited)

I was scrolling through and was like, 'what, no Spider-Man #1'? Surely he did a homage of his own stuff.

Just saving the best for last.

Thanks for taking the time to persevere through all those problems.

Do you have any of these issues?

I don't have the Spawn issue, but I do have the silver Spider-Man #1. It's actually one of four comics hanging on my wall, and my kid's favorite.

The others are:

  • Aliens vs Predator: Deadliest of the Species #3 (the one my wife refers to as 12 year old boy bait)
  • Secret Wars #1 (As a kid, I couldn't afford #8, so this was my compromise).
  • What The..?! #24 (The issue in which they roast the Infinity Gauntlet).

Do you know the meaning of life?!?

Be excellent to each other.

How do you make it stop burning when you pee (asking for a friend)?

Massive doses of penicillin, unless your friend is alleregic.

Lol

Yeah Spidey #1. I remember the day that book came out. We were hanging out at our local comic shop. I was 10 years old and was so excited for it. Seems like a lifetime ago. Great book to have on the wall. Secret Wars #8 is a killer book as well. One that you should “upgrade” to eventually!!! To be honest, I’m just happy you have any comics hanging on your wall. That’s awesome!!!

I am too. After years of lugging them around in boxes from move to move, I figured I should display them in a way where I'll see them and appreciate both the comics and my nostalgia. I've also got a 5x5 board of various cards (mainly the 92 Marvel cards, with a few 91's and the 92 Masterpiece collection). It's really fun to swap them out, prove that I was into the Infinity Gauntlet decades before it was popular, and see what me kid likes. (Thing is the favorite right now because 'pretty blue eyes')

I have that whole set of cards as well. Man I was a sucker for all the comic cards. Joe Jusko is awesome!!

I'd have to agree. Jusko's set was the first time I can remember thinking of comics (or related) as art. Even if my wife makes good-natured fun of me for the Black Cat card.

I was a particular sucker for the 92 Marvel cards because of how you could fit them into sheets with coherent backgrounds.
