Batman did wield the White Lantern ring in Brightest Day #14 even though only for a few moments :)
There are a number of Lantern's colors, a bit like the Infinity Stones in the Marvel Universe, and each is fueled by different aspects. From wiki: red (rage), orange (greed), yellow (fear), green (willpower), blue (hope), indigo (compassion), violet (love), black (death), and white (life).
Bats didn't turn out to be the true heir to the White Light, whoddathunkit!
