    You have to add the layer that the comic based on a movie based on an old tv show, all started as toys first.

    Some information I did not know before making this comment, as that the original comic lasted longer than the cartoon.

    Launched in 1984, Hasbro's Transformers toyline was promoted through both a comic book by Marvel Comics and an animated series produced by Sunbow Productions and Marvel Productions. Although the comic outlived the animated series by a number of years, the animated series is more widely recognised.

    I didn't know that. Not from the U.S. transformers were never big in my book.
