Plucking Some Gems ~ Indy Edition
Trying to not be the saddest man on the blockchain, I’m attempting to try to switch things up today and not discuss the pup situation. So I’ll focus on another passion of mine which is comic books!
Last week I wrote a piece about how we are acquiring a massive collection in waves. We are helping a buddy of ours thin out his storage units as he really needs to shed some of the bulk. He’s keeping his statues and most of his toys but 86ing the majority of the comics. That’s where we are happy to step in.
We agreed upon a price per box and we are taking them sight unseen. As you can imagine, there are boxes filled with some really cool treasures as well as some complete duds. As we quickly scanned through the over 40 long boxes we have snagged thus far, we yanked out some cool books. There are definitely more gems but this was just what we plucked out in that first peek.
I’ll show off sone of the Independent titles in this piece. DC and Indy are not tremendously large. The bulk of the stuff is Marvel...but I’ll get to that soon enough.
Let’s take a look at sone of the cool books below...
This copy of Spawn #1 is not just any ordinary copy but a newsstand variant. These typically sell for 3-4 times the price of a regular release. A buddy of mine just sold one for $60 clams!!!
Keeping with Spawn, the ol’ Black & White #1 is a ghost of a book that can bring in some tasty change as well. Also, the first Gunslinger is a coveted book that is getting harder to find as well.
There were a bunch of the Ashcan comics as well. Lady Death, Chastity, and the rest of the bad girls. These don’t command big bucks...maybe $10-$20 a pop but they are cool and fairly uncommon.
Sticking with Ashcans, this Darker Image one can bring in around $50 smackers!
Then there are a lot of variant covers. Sone incentive based and some through Dynamic Forces. The latter usually come with COA’s and were “limited”. Depending on the book, these can range from $10 bucks up to $100. Nothing too stellar here but cool stuff nonetheless.
Then there was this stack of Gerard Way’s Umbrella Academy #1’s. These are solid $50 dollar bills each!!!
Oh...and I can’t forget this Futurama #1. It only sells for around $20 bucks but as soon as I put this book on the wall...it moves!
There’s a ton more but as I mentioned before, these were just a handful of books we yanked from these boxes on the first quick pass. Up next...DC followed by Marvel!!!
Stay tuned!!!

Thanks to you, I learned a new expression for the first time: 86ing. This will be as useful as my Steem Power these days, but I feel smarter.
It never seems to amaze me at what these things sell for. How good is the artwork too man? Seriously wish I could draw!
Hmmm...I am definitely interested in some of those ashcans.
The Lady Death pieces in there are nice. That black/gold leather book should score you some nice loose change, and the other one looks like a velvet variant cover which should also make someone happy enough to make your wallet heavier. :)
