Beefing Up the Wall for Free Comic Book Day

Free Comic Book Day is less than 24 hours away. The madness is almost here. Most shops are busy with last minute restocking and organizing and we at Conquest Comics are no different. Besides the free comics we hand out, we run a tremendous sale. It’s by far our busiest day of the year. Customers come out in droves to snag that figure, statue, Pop, or back issue at a highly discounted rate.

Our almost 300 long boxes of back issues are 50% off on this day and the wall books are 20%. The wall books mainly consist of key issues, 1st appearances, variant covers, gimmick covers, and a variety of other weird or rarely found books. What separates our shop from most others is our wall is a an absolute monster!!!

We’ve been stockpiling key books the past few months specifically for this event. Our wall is 7 rows that each display 105 books for a total of 735 books. Name me one other comic shop that’s displaying that many killer issues...go ahead...I’ll wait. 😜

So I spent the better part of my Wednesday shift redoing the wall. I was at the shop until 2am and then came on Thursday to put in another few hours finishing it up. Adding and subtracting. Pricing up and getting it looking pretty and I must say I think it looks fantastic. We have 3 rows of Marvel, 2 DC, and 2 Independent rows.

Killer 1st appearances of Ghost Rider, Harley Quinn, Deadpool, Cable, Carnage, Scorpion, Rhino, Parasite, Rocket Raccoon, WR Machine, Iron Fist, Conan, Elektra, He-Man, Modok, Gambit, Bullseye, Batman Who Laughs, and so many more line the wall. Rare variants from today’s hottest artists, cool gimmicky covers (they always move)...I’m really happy with it and hope some of the folks who come out to participate in the big day find some gems to take home with the sale.

Well, back to work. I still have a days worth of cleaning and organizing but I’m happy with how the shop is looking. I’ll post new updated pics later tonight but for now, let me know what ya think of the wall!!!

Oh, before I go...a funny story from last year’s FCBD. A gentleman was at the wall last year yanking book after book. This dude had a STACK of em. Easily several grand worth of stuff. My guy James went to help him after he saw the ever growing stack of gems and discovered that the gentleman “thought” that Free Comic Book Day meant he could come in and grab any comics he wanted...yup...that really happened. He also got irritated and agitated when told that those aren’t the books he could have for free. Guess how much he spent at my shop...
