Your experience will improve dramatically if you bought some STEEM POWER. This is your steemd chart.

The system "delegated" 15 SP to your account. A delegation is an interest free loan. This gives you enough SP for about a 12 comments over a 5 day period. Editing a post costs the same as writing it. I have 100 SP. I can write a hundred posts in a five day period.

You can buy STEEM through a crypto exchange like blocktrades. Once the STEEM is in your account; you can select the "power up" option. Power up converts the STEEM to STEEM POWER.

It takes 13 weeks to power down. After you power down, you can sell the STEEM.

It is possible that SteemIt will fail in which case you lose your money. it is possible for STEEM to rise. This would increase the value of your account. There is risk and potential reward.

Your STEEM POWER determines the value of your vote. Go to the Upvote Calculator. It shows that the upvote of an account with 10,000 SP is currently worth $0.22. This changes with the price of STEEM.

The 100% upvote of an account with 15 SP is worth just 0.00034 . It takes 30 votes to equal a penny.

The more SP you buy; the higher your vote. Right now you need about 450 SP for your upvote to be worth a penny. That is $120.

If your upvote was worth a penny and you upvoted 10 times a day for 365 days; then you would dole out $36.50 . So, buying $100 or $200 of SP is not unreasonable. There is always a risk.

The price of STEEM fell dramatically. It was $5 when I joined. I did not purchase SP. Had I done so; I would have lost 95% of my investment. The price is now $.27. It is still a risk, but I think the chances that it would pay off are better now than 8 months ago.

BTW, there is a game called SteemMonsters.com . That game involves buying and selling playing cards.
