Analysis of Daredevil Comics during WWII

in #comic8 years ago (edited)

The name of the comic that I read is called "Daredevil battles Hitler". The issue number of this comic was number one, and it was published in July 1940. This 20-page comic focuses on a central story of daredevil infiltrating Hitler's base, and taking them on in a battle to protect London England from Nazi attack. This comic appears to be published during the time period of World War II.

On the second page of the comic, it says that Sliver Streak and other heroes would appear back in Silver Streak comics after this story has concluded.

This comic seems to appeal to young boys as well as young men, particularly those who are in the military fighting in the war. Since this is a conflict with the Nazi party during World War II the depiction of the German people was a very cunning and desperate group, willing to do whatever it takes to seize victory against the Allied powers. It also depicts Hitler as a political leader who makes decisions through mysticism. The opening scene of the comic shows Daredevil spying on Hitler who uses a crystal ball to devise a scheme to attack London.

In the second half of the comic, the Germans wage an attack on London. The Daredevil and Silver Streak help the English military in their fight against the Nazis. This comic does a good job of denouncing both the Italians and the Germans for not having the strength as a nation to rise up and questioned the initiatives and motives of their government. The comic also sends the message that the German media is filled with propaganda and lies, fueling more support on the American people’s part towards the war effort against the Nazis. This comic also shows the strong bond and great international relations between the United States and the English had during World War II.

The Daredevil comic was in many ways a propaganda piece to increase the nation's morale during a war, while at the same time being an entertainment publication. This comic was a way to demonize and dehumanize Hitler and to create a national outcry for his defeat in World War II. It was also a great way to showcase the superhero Daredevil against the biggest villain of the time period Adolf Hitler. Although the superheroes are wearing their costumes and are presented as supernatural beings, in this comic they resorted to tactical warfare in taking down Hitler, which at the time was very realistic for a comic book plot and scenario.
