Africa From Above

Have you ever wondered why many super heroes have capes? What about why they often wear their underpants on the outside - on top of their trousers?

Steeman's new suit, curtesy of Shuri and Wakanda Tech, is a significant upgrade. Apart from doing away with the cliché cape and pants paradigm, it adds vibranium microfibre - which reduces friction during flight by about 50%. This doubles Steeman's speed within the same energy expended.

The vibranium microfibre is also nearly a superconductor - which virtually removes the requirement for RC while electrically transmitting through the Steem network.

Steeman's new visor adds night vision, facial recognition and live info display.

Steeman opted to fly to the next destination rather than teleport via the Steem network. He can get to admire the incredible African landscape, especially with his new augmented reality visor. He's got GPS, hence SatNav, and EagleEye - which is Wakanda's technology for telescopic vision. From 35 thousand feet, Steeman can now read the text on your smartphone.

What a marvel. Steeman found it surprising that most of the African landscape is dominated by desert sand - The Sahara in the north and The Kalahari in the south. A good portion of the remainder consists of the semi-arid Sahel Savanna which itself is fast becoming desert-like due to deforestation and, ahem!, climate change.

Only parts of West Africa, Central Africa (around the Congo) and portions of East Africa are truly green. In that region, the Congo rainforests stands out - lush and dark green. From that high up, Steeman could see the clear signs of deforestation as the Sahel encroaches on the Congo. Moreover, there's a dark patch of what looks like coal - which on scanning closer, Steeman realised was the devastation of the apocalyptic fire that raged through the forest last year.

Oddly enough, the second largest rainforest on the planet, a significant provider of our oxygen, was burning and nobody heard about it

From the data retrieved via the visor, it appears the Congo basin fire was at least twice as widespread as that of the Amazon that happened at the same time.

The whole world was "praying for the Amazon", or at least changed their FaceBook profile photo for a day or two. Not a single profile photo altered for the Congo.

Steeman changed altitude to the edge of space, just to take in the whole view in one go.

Steeman is a real hero. He seems to actually observe and consider the world around him.....legend in the making!

He's very present in the moment :)

I would love to read a full comic book on Steeman! :) :)

Maybe that will happen one day :)

I lived in Africa for 12 years, that was in the north, but still. It's so damn hot there and sometimes it's better without under pants for sure. lol

LOL! I think Steeman's suit can cool him down in hot weather, and warm him up in the cold. It's how he can fly to space :)
