There are six types of pieces in chess: the pawn, rook, knight, bishop, queen, and king.

Chess is a very old game, more than 1500 years, and the various characters have altered with the times. For example, some historians believe it was arrows and throwing spears, the aerial projectiles more and more common in combat, that inspired a rule change allowing some pieces to cover great distances by moving multiple squares at once.

I like that thoery. And so, for many months now, I've protested in front of the Capital, been maced and tazed and placed under arrest numerous times, and written daily profanity laden letters to powerful people demanding they further modernize the game by adding two new round characters to each side. These characters would be called the lawyer and the bureaucrat.

The lawyer and bureaucrat pieces would begin in the center four squares and never move. They can never be captured so the action revolves around them. Each turn, they allow you and your opponent to take back any of you or your opponent's previous moves, release captured pieces back to the board, and pretty much do whatever the hell you can get away with. Thus rendering the game impossible and increasing the risk of real physical combat between the two players.

I don't ask for much. Only change one of the oldest games, make it a metaphor for the frustration and hopelessness lawyers and bureaucrats bring to our everyday lives, and call it @acolucky's gambit.
