Papier-Mache Figures Lingering in Courtyard … Chiang Mai, Thailand – Colourful Photography

These stoic but colorful figures were loitering with no intent behind a mall in Chiang Mai.

Keeping the peace … and quiet

I came across these stern-faced figures in back of Chiang Mai’s oldest shopping mall. Behind the massive complex is a large green courtyard with fountains, a large Buddhist “spirit house” shrine, and a rarely used event space.

Apart from the small morning farmer’s market held once a week (or less frequently), this courtyard is one of the quietest spots in the neighborhood, if not in the entire city.

Done and gone

While I was taking my favorite short-cut through the courtyard one day, I saw these five little papier-mache figures looking over the event space. (Actually, only the one in the center seemed to be “looking,” while the other 4 had their eyes closed.)

It’s unclear what those figures were doing there. Whatever it was, they seem to have done it properly and finished their task. When I passed through the courtyard a few days later, these little guys had moved on.

The dolls are looking so peaceful and satisfied..!!! And their dress reflects the traditional clothing of Thailand, i guess..!
Good capture..!

I rarely see traditional dress here, so not sure if this reflects it. But ... probably.

might be, to a foreign eye..!

Those are so cute!! I find Thai like to decorate places with smiley statues.
Not quite the same in Cambodia or Laos.
I think I took this photo almost 1 year ago somewhere on the way to Pai.

Nice photo! Ya, there's plenty of colorful figures around Chiang Mai. My favorite is this huge purple dog. But there are many others, and I've thought about doing a single post featuring a few dozen of them .

AH! Is that you?

No. I'm not purple!
The little man ... that's me. Sorry, camera was set at "FUZZY."

Your click perfect ..... By the way which Camera you used to take this pic...its awesome bro ...love it 💕💕💕💕💕

Just a simple point-n-click FujiPix camera. Nothing special ...

you have magic in your hand

@majes.tytyty i have sent you private msg, have you read that?

Yes, thanks. But usually I can detect plagiarism pretty quickly and easily.
Cheers.

Thank you :)

The original sculpture. I'm sure the car tried to convey something with the help of their faces. Sorry, not all facial expressions are visible. Good luck to you and Love.

Оригинальная скульптура. Я уверен, что авто попытался передать что-то с помощью их лиц. Жаль, не все выражения лиц видны. Удачи Вам и Любви.

how they grind paper and give it shapes .... itz awesome

Papier mache is one the incredable art found in various countries like you mentioned Thailand..
Papier mache art can express some priceless words and feeling which an ordinary art is not able to express..
The papier mache you mentioned above in shrine in Thailand may be expressing to keep peace and love.
