Ever wondered how the world looks like in the lenses of those with colourblindness? Bright Side compared images of how different forms of colourblindness affect the way some of us view the world and it’s bewildering!

According to research, a significant amount of people suffers from colourblindness. To be more exact, 0.5% of women and 8.0% of men perceive the world quite differently from most in terms of colours.

For many of us, colourblindness is quite difficult to understand because we do not experience it first hand. What do these individuals see? Do opposing tones really look similar to them?

There are many different forms of colourblindness, and not everyone who suffers from colourblindness lives in a grey scale world.

Normal Vision

This would be how a person with normal vision would see different shades of colours under normal circumstances.

Deuteranomalia

The most common form of colourblindness. Those with Deuteranomalia perceive colours with a lower level of luminosity. Around 4.63% of men suffer from Deuteranomalia, and many do not even know it.

Protanopia

Protanopia is less common and affects only 1% of men. For those who suffer from Protanopia, blue and yellow colours are unchanged while red and green look drastically faded.

Tritanopia

This form of colourblindness is extremely rare and affects a small percentage of both men and women. Those who experience Tritanopia see the world in different hues of pinks and greens.

Total Colour Blindness

Total colour blindness exists in the world. However, it’s the rarest form of colourblindness and affects only 0.00003% of the world’s population. Those who suffer from total colour blindness see the world in different shades of grey.
