Color Challenge Wednesday Yellow: Black-Eyed Susan

in #colorchallenge6 years ago (edited)

I had a favorite cousin named Susan who passed a couple years ago. I can't hear the name without conjuring up an image of my childhood.

We were such dorks, she and I, but we thought we were so COOL! We weren't just cousins growing up, we were also best friends.

Adulthood definitely took us in different directions but I still always hoped life would turn out for her. We were blood. Nothing trumps blood.

It's been over 2 years since she left the world. Life has changed so very much.

In case you are wondering I did have several different yellow flowers to choose from to post today and I usually add more than one angle of that flower for your viewing pleasure.

But today it's just this, a lone damaged flower, growing in the wild, and memories of days gone by.

This flower is not perfect. It's probably not cared for properly because it's not a garden flower. It looks like maybe it's not getting the right amount of nourishment.

It is a wildflower. That is how it is meant to grow.

In the photo, you will notice that the flower is entangled with a spider who has (or had) obviously decided it would make a suitable home.

If you had known my cousin, you would understand the truth of this little flower and why, for so many reasons it reminds me of my cousin and the life she led.

But it's still beautiful, this little flower. It's worth remembering...

There are certain things in life that spark memories: memories of people, places or moments that are important to us. I don't think I would ever had made it through my childhood without my cousin. Our shenanigans are a part of who I am today. Je me souviens.

Life flows like a river and envelops us with a web. We understand that life is not eternal and somewhere there is a waterfall along which someone swims further, someone manages to reach the shore of life. But we will always remember those who swam further.

That is so beautiful. Thank you for the sentiment.

I am sorry for your loss. Keeping her is your memory and having a smile on your face when you remember her is in a way keeping her alive in your thoughts. Much love to you. 💚

Thank you. I will always remember her...that is how we keep people alive in our thoughts and in our hearts.
