Epcot Center at Night, Walt Disney World Florida - ColorChallenge PurpleSunday
This past January we traveled up to Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida, just after New Years. Surprisingly, the parks are not as crowded as you would think at that time and we were able to spend a full day at Magic Kingdom and a full day at Epcot Center.
For those of you who have been following me for a while and know me already, you know I like to find patterns in shapes, colors, and abstract effects created by light. One of my favorite objects to photograph at night at Disney is the iconic "Spaceship Earth" at the Epcot resort. At night the structure is usually illuminated in a soft blue color, but for the first time I got to see it in a different color. It was a beautiful transition from a warm pink to deep purple. Something I could not resist photographing.
A Little Background on its Design
It's design was created with the help of science fiction writer Ray Bradbury and is based on the work of Buckminster Fuller, who is recognized for his work in developing geodesic domes and a spherical molecular carbon structure named after him called a Buckminsterfullerene - or Buckyball for short.
I have been a fan of this type of building structure for as long as I can remember. I used to read about his work in Popular Science magazine as it pertains to future habitat structures on the Moon, Mars, and here on earth for Biodomes.
IHigher ISO setting to increase the brightness.

The previous two photos were taken using the HDR setting on my Nikon. That takes 2 photos in rapid succession and compiles them to increase the contrasts at night. You have to use a tripod or keep steady for it to work perfectly, that's why there is a bit of ghosting on the second picture. Even your pulse is enough to move the alignment of the shots.

Very cool photos! Long time Bucky fan, too... undervalued genius, I feel. Still hope some of his designs will be used for space habitats, one of these years.
Agreed. It's one of those things where for years growing up reading Popular Science and Journal Science I had so much hope for the future ( 2000-2015 ) with space travel and exploration tech, homes of the future, flying cars, all that good stuff. Then 2000 rolled around and nothing was even close to what was promised.
I have never been to Disney but my hope would be to take the kids someday. If I ever make it there I will look at Epcot in a whole new light. Your pictures are beautiful!
Thank you @thesimplelife. I'm happy you like them. It was great to see it in the pinks and purples, usually it's always blue. I'm honestly not sure if they now change it up all the time or not, but it made for some really nice pictures for sure.
My sisters are both very good at photography so I live vicariously through their lenses. It's an amazing skill to have to be able to capture your life experiences!

Love the disney.. Thanks for sharing
Thank you @blurrylens - It was something I couldn't pass up taking pictures of.
I think I could stare at those geodesic shapes all day! I'm so excited to be bringing my son and his fiance to Disney/Epcot at the end of the month. It's going to be hellish hot but it's DISNEY! LOL
I love photographing patterns and shapes like that, especially when they are illuminated.
*Hellish Hot is an understatement. We were at Universal last weekend, it felt like when you open a 400 degree oven every time you stepped outside of a ride. You could almost feel your sneakers melting to the pavement.
Thankfully, the lines were not super long so we could get to the inside part of the lines pretty quick and out of the heat.
The upside - well it's Disney :-) I'm sure everyone will have a blast and remember that more than the heat.
It's always so beautiful at night!
Especially that night. It was the first time I ever saw it illuminated in a different color besides the usual blue.
Excellent Sunday Purple @steempowerpics!
I'm getting into photography a bit myself since starting the #colorchallenge. Not really sure what I'm doing and need to get myself a decent camera but I think given a bit of time I could be quite good at it. :)
Your posts are really good mate! :)
Thank you Tony, I appreciate that.
Yeah all the different challenges and contest on Steemit are great. They get us all motivated to go out, do, and appreciate things that are normally overlooked or forgotten in our crazy busy days.
You'll see in my post notes, many times the photo of the moment was taken with my trusty cell phone. I don't always have my "real" camera with me.
