After months of slow maturation, our Gooseberries are ready to be converted in a delicious jam!

Some of the many health benefits:
Flavones and anthocyanins are compounds in gooseberries found to have numerous health beneficial effects against cancer, aging, inflammation, and neurological diseases. Rich in antioxidant polyphenolics and vitamins, the fiber content constitutes 26 percent of the daily recommended value, which has the ability to prevent colon cancer. Quite the healthy berry, pure like that I must admit it is not my favorite berry - as a jam it is wonderful!

Cheers,

Is this a tropical plant? I have seen something similar in the Philippines but they're green in color.

Hi, it grows in many conditions. There are various kinds of gooseberries, some can be yellowy green... I would not say they are tropical though. Would like to find out!

Hmmm will check that out. There are fruits that we thought are not edible in the Philippines though are edible in some places. Some are unnoticed even.

When you live in paradise, fruit hangs everywhere! I know it from the north of Brasil, which is tropical climate... However, they hardly have or just don't use any berries really.

They don't use berries in Brasil or they don't have them?? sorry, i got confused.

Yeah, it seems in the north east they don't grow. Or they grow but nobody uses them... I just think its funny it doesn't grow there if every thinkable fruit grows! The variety of fruit is huge overall, just not the berries...

I ate a few of those last week! :-)
