It was so good that it turned them upside down :)

Today I was checking up the photos that I made and I found this two, from June... I took the photos of these caterpillars, because I never saw them before and I wanted to check them up :)

I did a little research - and here we go... The latin name of this species is - Cydalima perspectalis (english - box tree moth).

This is interesting:

Wikipedia says that they were introduced to Europe, first time recorded in Germany in 2006. In 2007, they slowly spread to Switzerland and Netherlands. By 2009, France, Great Britain, Austria. 2011 - Hungary, Romania, Turkey, Slovakia, Belgium, Croatia (that's why I didn't see them before ;). They made a tour throughout all Europe these last couple of years...

Here I saw them on roses, but usually they like to feed on the common box (lat. Buxus sempervirens). This evergreen shrub is used in parks and gardens for hedges. Until these party animals don't show up and defoliate it :)

It turns out that we have a new invasive species of caterpillars here in Europe. Have you ever seen those around in your area? Watch out, party started here :)
