If you're looking for upvotes, there are a lot of articles about engagement on Steemit, and I recommend you check those out. Around here, just writing a spammy comment of "please upvote me," with no real content behind it doesn't work very well.

Engage with an audience. Leave a thoughtful comment. Don't beg. Give your audience a reason to upvote you.

Follow for follow mentality does not work here long-term.
