Cultivated in love, countless hours and sweat, this marvel offers majesty for about half a year. As I was just about to leave the mystical archipelago of Haida Gwaii, a mandatory photoshoot of my friend’s garden was of the utmost imperative. Cultivated in love, countless hours and sweat, this marvel offers majesty for about half a year.
Inspired by the former house owner, an architect, jeweller magnificent and avid gardener, Brian Eccles sold his house and left all of it to a very capable owner, an an artist at heart, concerned citizen of this world who is deeply moved by environmental art, education and the future of our us all. Like her indomitable work among the kindergartens, she disposes of the same virtues when it come to tackling garden work.
Her exquisite eye for beauty, form and colour composition make of her garden a miniature sanctuary where one can dispose of old thoughts and negative sticky patterns while being rejuvenated in the ever nourishing gifts of the earth.
This picture is a bit of a tribute to both the garden and the spirit this deeply beloved friend has unveiled over the years among the communities of Haida Gwaii and far beyond. This year, she was awarded the Grand Prize, international juried Federation of Canadian Artists, 2017.
