the Story of the Drunken Umbrella - the Venice of the North
Today when walking the streets of my little hometown Amsterdam, I saw quite a few boats unattended and drowned. A not so unusual sight this time a year when we get quite a bit of rain. We have many little canals, and many - uncovered - little boats, and apparently many of the owners of these boats are not taking care of them at all.
Amsterdam counts about 165 canals with a total length of about 75 kilometers (= 47 miles). The canals are mostly in the city centre and to allow for all the people to cross town, or even blocks and streets, 1.281 bridges were build. It are for these reasons Amsterdam is called the Venice of the North.
In these canals around 3.500 boats dock, of which many of them are kinda sunken.

Those swamped boats look like a good place for mosquitos to breed.
We have quite a few mosquitos in spring and summer time, but then we have less sunken boats :) Interestingly we also have parakeets living in our main and biggest park in our city centre, but that is a whole different story.
I remember many wonderful and so ORANGE Queens Birthday's in Adam. Always a very nice and sometime wet party - Manly wet from the inside.
Orange Queens Birthday's were super nice indeed. Today's Kings Day continuous it :)
