Plums

in #colorchallenge7 years ago

Plums are absolutely delicious. There's nothing better than a sweet and juicy plum. These fruits are amazing. I personally can't get enough of them. I wait for plum season. Plums are really good for your health as well.

Very sweet of his fruit .... may I try it one ..? where can i get it ...?

Not sure I understand 10 votes for the reply here and no one even answered it, lol! Did people think it was too obvious to answer? In any event, no question is wrong in my book and deserves an answer. So here at least I will try to answer it. Usually you can get plums from the store, however, if you live in a region where they do not grow normally you would have to go to a shop or market that imports from regions where plums are grown.

They are grown broadly in many rural regions across the US where the climate is good for the plum trees, and the season is typically May through June. Out of season you can also buy frozen plums which are usually a good quality as well.

A quick google also showed this:
"
China is the top producing country accounting for 6,100,000 tons followed by India with 738,345 tons and Serbia with 512,645 tons. Other top plum producing countries include Romania, Chile, Turkey, Iran, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, and the United States.
"

I am sure if you do some searching online yourself. It looks like you are in Indonesia on your profile and apparently plums are grown there as well, and if I guess correctly, the word there is "prem" for plum?

Anyway hope you manage to find some. Good luck !

I love plums, especially plum tarts, but have also read you should be careful with them.

Side Effects

While there is no doubt that plums are a nutrient-rich fruit with a lot of health and medicinal benefits, there are some side effects of eating large amounts of plums as well. Plums are among the foods that contain significant amounts of naturally occurring oxalates, which may cause kidney stones. When you consume too many plums, the oxalate levels may become concentrated. These interfere with the absorption of calcium in the body and as a result calcium begins to precipitate in the kidneys. Ultimately, this may cause formation of small or even large stones in the kidneys and the bladder.

This risk of developing these kidney stones is higher among those who do not have a very healthy digestive system and those who do not chew their foods well. Ordinarily, physicians would not discourage you from consuming plums, but if you have a predisposition of developing kidney stones, or if this is a hereditary problem in your family, it is best to avoid consuming plums in large quantities. You may still be able to consume them and enjoy them in smaller quantities during the summer months when they are available.
