A pisaster ochraceus is a purple starfish. It is commonly found in the waters of the pacific ocean. There tube feet have suckers on their distal ends which allow them to attach to the rocky substrate and live in heavily wave swept areas. They can live up to as long as 20 years. They are carnivorous and feed off muscle, snails, limpets, chitons,  barnacles, echinoids and even decapod  crustacea.
