Collaborative Art Journey No. 30: Aspects of Existence

in #collaborativeartjourney7 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone and I am back again with a (not so) incredible art tutorial and my presentation for the 30th collaborative art journey by @everlove.

Before i start, I just want to say sorry for I was not active for awhile in sharing art tutorials around here and I was busy sharing about some other stuff. I have been told by my doctor to rest for a bit because of my anemia. I think I overslept often times and I happen to have sleeping discomfort instead.

Too much of that, let us get started!

I am totally enticed in mixing traditional and digital art so I tried. I hope I did not fail your expectations though.

As per instruction, I used this photo as the base of my artwork:

The hexagon shapes combined together seemed to be beeswax for me. Anyway, after downloading the base illustration and used Sketbook for Android, I first wanted to doodle but decided not to. I took my watercolor book and used it instead.

Lately, I had been dreaming about snakes eyes too and I had been wondering why so I decided to paint one.

I took my wide but slim brush (such an irony) and started dabbing it using yellow watercolor from my Simbalion watercolor cake palette. I continued doing this watercolor technique but I made sure I do it gently as it may ruin our paper. The brush is also smooth so there is less chance my work would get ruined.

I used purple as it is in contrast with color yellow. I also added blue after and some red orange near the yellow paint.

You can see I used more than four colors for the snakes eyes because I wanted to make it look very appealing. I smoothened it using the same brush and then resumed using the dabbing tecnnique.

This time, I put some force in dabbing the brush over our art space. I used strong colors but not really he dark ones since I wanted it to go well with the base illustration.

And then I started adding minor details which are doodles. I made sure though that it would not smudge our work area so I dabbed the watery parts with a cloth first before inking it wih doodles.

And now we are done with our drawing. Let us combine the two works for collaboration. Here is the process:

Using my sketchbook, I combined the photo and made it into a mirror-like image.

I made the image a bit transparent by increasing its opacity to add such effect.

I then added the photos I took during the process of making the Snake's Eye. I used different pages for each photo so that I could eease the portion of the image that would extend on another hexagon shape. I also added few small doodles for our image.

And now we are done!

By the way, why did I come up with such image in mind? Well, I wanted to show the before we existed, we were still molded first in someone's womb. And before becoming what we are today, living species like snakes are molded from the likeness of its ancestors. Our physical apperance is based on genetics.

Ohhhhh @gailbelga!! This is quite the fun interpretation. I love that the image includes some of the process---it's a rarity to see that! Great job. The snake eye is also super unique...I don't think I've seen that before in this collaboration either! The transparency is also interesting - it makes me really want to look closely at this image! Thanks for coming out to play with us and for giving us such a creative blessing.

Ohhhh dear thank you for this acknowledgement. Would love to join on the next collaborative journey. It is indeed an exercise on all of our creative juices!😍
