Goldman Sachs Group Inc. could offer a boost for the burgeoning universe of funds betting on cryptocurrencies.
The firm is considering a plan to offer custody for crypto funds, according to people with knowledge of the matter. That means the bank would hold the newfangled securities on behalf of the funds, reducing risk for clients seeking to guard against the threat of losing their investments to rogue attacks.
The deliberations are ongoing and no timeline has been set for when the firm will roll out the services, the people said, asking not to be identified because the information isn’t public.

2. Google is heading towards own “Blockchain-as-a-Service” solution

Google is one of the most active blockchain investors, outrun only by Japanese SBI Holdings, according to CB Insights. The company actively invests in blockchain technology since 2012. Recently Google has established several new partnerships that will help to implement distributed ledger technology (DLT) on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Among new partners are Digital Asset, FinTech blockchain developer, and BlockApps, a firm that offers Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) platform for enterprises.

“DLT has great potential to benefit customers not just in the financial services industry, but across many industries, and we’re excited to bring these developer tools to Google Cloud,”

says Leonard Law, Head of Financial Services Platform, Google Cloud. Digital Asset will integrate their blockchain platform and development services with the GCP.
The BlockApps’ STRATO platform for enterprises will allow testing blockchain applications for different business needs after the GCP adoption.

구글이 'STRATO'플랫폼의 BlockApps와 제휴를 통해 GCP(Google Cloud Platform)에서의 자체 BaaS (Blockchain as a Service) 개발에 착수하는 것으로 보입니다.

3. 원희룡 제주도지사 "'블록체인 국제 허브' 제주 만든다"

원 지사는 “대한민국은 인터넷 강국이지만, 하드웨어가 아닌 소프트웨어에서 강국이었던 적은 없었다”며 블록체인이라는 새로운 흐름에서 나오는 기회를 잡아야한다고 강조했다. 그는 “블록체인은 대한민국이 (소프트웨어 강국이 될)첫 기회이자 마지막 기회일 수도 있다”며 “기회는 지나가기 전에 잡아야 한다”고 말했다.
물론 암호화폐 시장의 돈세탁 위험, 투기 열풍 등에 따른 부담과 위험요인은 있지만 “위협은 ‘관리’의 대상이지, ‘기피’ 대상이 아니다”라며 “위험부담이 있더라도 더 적극적으로 나서 기회를 잡아야 한다”고 주장했다.
원 지사는 제주도가 특별자치도로서 특별법에 의거한 ‘국제자유도시’임을 강조하며 “노무현 참여정부가 설정했던 제주국제자유도시의 모습이 실질적인 알맹이가 부족했다는 비판을 받아왔지만, 이제 블록체인을 통해 오프라인뿐 아니라 온라인에서도 ‘블록체인 국제자유도시’로서의 실질적 내용을 갖출 역사적 기회를 맞이했다”고 힘줘 말했다.
