RE: How to make coffee – THE RIGHT WAY!

in #coffee7 years ago

I've been moving in the opposite direction and using more and more coffee for the same amount of water. At this point I'm using 44 grams of coffee for about 350 mL of coffee.

The method that you use is very similar to how Turkish coffee is made, except that it is done in a tiny pot and makes a very strong cup.

Interesting! Does this help you taste the subtleties better?

It certainly does. The effect is similar to listening to music turned up loud. There are some flavors that you just can't taste until they are really strong. The other effect is based on the chemistry of extraction. Using lots of water extracts out more of the bitter tannins.

So the best flavors come out first....interesting! I assume you are not using a Mr. Coffee machine though?

No, I don't use Mr. Coffee. We use an Aeropress, which makes a tiny volume of ultra-strong coffee, then we dilute it to taste.
