Your Coffee Concoctions - Featuring my Lattè Art
It is around 800-900 A.D. when coffee was discovered by a goat herder named Kaldi in Ethiopia. His goats were energized after eating a certain fruit of a shrub, tasting it by himself, he became lively as well.

As times went by, coffee had gone with different intriguing stories. From once being like an illegal drug that is being traded secretly to becoming a gift to a lieutenant by a queen to end their affair and bid farewell to each other.
Back then, in some parts of Arabia, coffee could only be consumed publicly by a man. In return, the wives can file for divorce if their husband failed to let them enjoy coffee at home, knowing that coffee is an aphrodisiac and has medicinal benefits.
We are indeed fortunate now that coffee is easily available within our reach. Different variants, from an instant ones to handcrafted and artisanal.
Different concoctions are present nowadays as well. Originating from Italy, coffee shops offering different types of coffee to different variety of consumers mushroomed here and abroad.
In every part of the world, we will find at least one coffee shop in every corner. Different kinds, but serving almost the same product which only differs in beliefs of brewing and processes.
Every morning, every single busy person drops in the nearest coffee shop to kick start the day with their preferred blend, choosing among vast types of concoctions available in the market.
One may want coffee as it is, while others may want it hidden under the taste of sweetness.
Old School

An espresso shot, bottoms up. Mostly ordered by people that are always in a hurry and has a very busy day ahead. Taking a shot of espresso, plain and black, to help them energize and focus in any activity. Either single, double or even up to quadruple shots will complete their morning and surely will rev them up.
Most coffee shops are offering this coffee in a term of solo - single shot or doppio - double shot. Being served in a demitasse or a super small cup.
Don't forget to lift that pinky of yours when drinking this one.
How about a little milk.

The typical concoction contains coffee and milk. Pour some milk to at least make the coffee sweeter and creamy. Either chilled or hot, it is welcome. At home or even office, this is the one famous being ask from a personal assistant. Coffee and milk. Or whenever someone has a black one and didn't like the way it tastes, expect that an additional milk will be asked, on the side.
Coffee and milk have been the Batman and Robin of every coffee drinker. And in every coffee shop, Caffè Latte or Café Au Lait is the famous one. A mixture of an espresso shot and milk.
In my own opinion, this kind of concoction is more likely to be milk with a touch of coffee, I'm not a fan of milk though, as my stomach rumbles once I had one. But for the flavor purpose and complimentary concoction, I prefer less milk than a regular Caffè Latte. And that being substitute by a little foam of milk.
I want milk but I want a bolder coffee flavor

Though some want their coffee mixed with milk, some would still prefer to have a bolder flavor even with milk. A Caffè Latte with less milk? Maybe... But we can put some texture in that, where your cup can still be filled.
Let's put a little dense, velvety and creamy texture on your coffee through milk but with a bolder flavor.
That is called Cappuccino, an espresso shot mixed with 1 part milk and 1 part foam of milk. In this way, the coffee still has milk in it, but bolder flavor. There 2 variants of cappuccino, there is wet cappuccino - has a higher amount of milk than foam and dry cappuccino - which is vice versa of a wet one.
But if this is still not bold enough for you, you can have instead a Espresso Macchiato. Not a Caramel Macchiato, that is different from this one. Espresso Macchiato is a solo or doppio espresso with a drop of foam of milk. Just a little touch of milk... literally.
How about more sweetness

Let's add some chocolates, why not? Aside from a typical concoction of coffee and milk, some prefers it to be "sweeter" and milk is just not enough. And once that three ingredients mixed together, we will have a Caffè Mocha.
The name was originated from a port of Mocha in Yemen wherein most packages are coffee and chocolates. I guess that answers why it is called "mocha".
Most coffees are the best complemented with chocolates and espresso is one of the darkest roasts expected to have a "hint" of sweet caramelly taste and dark cocoa flavor. It is well complemented with chocolates and that is the reason that Caffè Mocha became one of the most favorite concoctions of coffee.
Especially when topped with whipped cream.

It will complete the flavor. In my own opinion, this kind of concoction hides the taste of coffee under the sweetness of other ingredients. And for me, if one doesn't like the taste of coffee but wants or needs to stay awake, then it is best to have something sweet blended instead. Take note that we only needed the caffeine from coffee to make us awake, and not the taste. It is a misconception that the bolder the taste, the more effectice it is to keep us awake. This is not true, and besides, sugar in a sweet drink gives us a rush of energy as well.
Coffee and Art
Since coffee shops are almost in every corner of our streets, baristas are growing in numbers as well. Aside from focusing on flavors of different concoctions, art is being inserted as well in coffee. Yes, coffee is art and science. Art as it is a masterpiece of every roaster, and science because there is logic and technicality involved when creating different flavors in every single step of planting and roasting.
But in every coffee shop, art is one way of interacting with customers. One of which is Lattè Art. With milk being the paint and the cup is the canvass.
There has been a battle of Lattè Art in every corner of the world and is being joined by different baristas from different places and walks of life.
Lattè Art is not as easy as coming up with a design since the art should never compromise the flavor and components of the beverage. With Lattè, once it has an art, it means that the correct steaming of milk was poured perfectly, with a correct amount of milk and texture.
Take note, the milk becomes sweeter once steamed.
And without further adieu, here is my simple Lattè Art!
One caffè latte for you! Enjoy your coffee!!
