The goal was simple: Get the ROKU to work with Element TV's remote control, or control it from my laptop via USB. Turns out I needed both: A wired USB keyboard and mouse for the PC and Element TV would only accept the original remote control. The good news is that using an IR blaster you can turn most wireless remotes into working with your device! I'll use Windows 10 as an example but if you're comfortable enough to run CMD then just replace it with Remote Desktop or similar. You can also use Chrome Remote Desktop, even on Windows 7 machines (not that they support Java). you can also read element tv remote codes on our website
Step 1. I needed a program that can change TV channels with Element TV's remote control. There were many options on the Internet but most of them didn't work for me, some due to crappy coding and others just having issues running on Windows 10 (I used Windows 7 before upgrading). Here are some links anyway:
http://www.mrbungle.org/tech/roku_sends_ir_codes/ This worked somewhat on my computer but not very stable so it might be good for some other technical people who enjoy troubleshooting. Just don't come crying to me if you can't get it right lol! http://code.google.com/p/ez-remote-control-as-a-jav… This helped me finally get it all working, I was able to change channels and use other buttons on the remote.
Here is the command line I used: java -jar C:\Users\MattSeymour\Desktop\ezRemoteToRokuTV3.0-bin.ex e --IRAddress=00000000 (you can replace 0000000 with your IR control signal).
Step 2: Set up a wired USB "mouse" and keyboard for the PC to use later when we're stage by stage installing ROKU software on Element TV's operating system http://www.elementtvfactoryresetcodes.com/ . NOTE! If you don't have an actual mouse then skip this step or set up a virtual one. But I find the mouse more precise when I'm doing ROKU's initial setup.
Step 3 Plug in a wired keyboard and mouse into Element TV using USB port on the back of it, then turn on power button to "ON" or whatever it says if it already was set to that before. Now we're going stage by stage through ROKU's startup software installation process for Element TV's operating system http://www.elementtvfactoryresetcodes.com/ . NOTE! I have found that there are multiple versions of the Element TV firmware so be sure you have the same version as my instructions here: http://www.elementtvfactoryresetcodes.com/ .
Step 4. Go to http://www.elementtvfactoryresetcodes.com/ and search for "Roku" (enter the number two in the box and hit enter).
Step 5: You should be at a page titled something like: "How To Add Roku" or "Install Roku on an Element TV". Scroll down until you see part of this text saying: "Before we can install anything, we need to add my roku repository..." This is where my Windows 10 told me I needed to upgrade Java even though it was already installed; If your computer tells you that Java isn't working then press [no] when asked [yes].
