WHO OWNS THE ARMREST IN MOVIE THEATERS??

Those of you who like to use both the armrests while watching the movie in a theater must be familiar with the struggle regarding the use of the armrest because presumably people sitting adjacent to you also like to use both the armrests or maybe they use it because they think that they own it. So who actually owns the armrest?
Well it is not clearly defined; however the general understanding is that it must be shared with your armrest mate. However, the problem with sharing is that the armrest is not wide enough to be shared by two people.
Now the straight forward solution to this seems to be to ask the theater owners to make the armrests wide enough or to provide separate armrests. But will they agree to this solution? NO, because it will reduce the space available to put seats for more customers.
