鬼節心須說鬼故事!|Chinese Ghost Festival should have ghost story!

昨天看到 @carinewhy一個關於農曆7月14的帖子，才突然發覺原來已經到鬼節了！鬼節可以算是香港一個重大的節日啊，畢竟人們在清明節燒的線香跟紙錢可是遠遠的不夠在他們鬼節所燒的多啊(在香港確實是這樣，不知道在你的城市是不是了)。而說到鬼節，當然會想到鬼了，所以就讓我跟大家講一個鬼故事吧！鬼節不說，要待何時啊? (好了，我是有點怕了，所以等到今天早上才發出來的說。)

Yesterday, I read a post from @carinewhy, which is about the 7/14 of the lunar calendar of Chinese. And it reminds me that, yes, it is the Chinese Ghost Festival. And Chinese Ghost Festival is a very important day in Hong Kong, as people will even burn more incense and paper money than the Ching Ming Festival. And when we talk about Chinese Ghost Festival, of course we need to tell some ghost story!

香港的鬼故事很多，就讓我說一個特別的吧。我大學是讀香港科技大學的(下稱“科大”)，就讓我說一個關於科大的鬼故事吧。大家都知道科大的位置在西貢，依山而建，而山腳就在海邊。大學的入口在山上，而大學就把入口的一層作為地面，英語為Ground Floor (“G”)；而往山腳而建的建築物被稱為地下層，英語叫做Lower Ground (“LG”). 大家可以參考一下下面的相片。

There is a lot of ghost story in Hong Kong, and I would like to pick a special one. I was studied in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (“HKUST”) for my colleague. So, I decided to tell you a ghost story from HKUST. Well, you know that HKUST is located in Sai Kung, and it build along with the mountain. The entrance built on the top of mountain which was treated as the ground floor (“G”), and for the rest of the building that built along to the foot of the mountain was treated as lower ground(“LG”).

而科大建築物的樓層順序為 G，LG1，LG3，LG4，LG5，LG7。大家有沒有發覺有什麼特別的地方呢？對，怎麼不見了LG2呢？傳說中，在學校施工的時候，原本是規劃了LG2的，但是在施工的期間，發生了很多意外，而且有建築工人接二連三的離奇死忙，所以最後被迫停工。而最後學校決定跳過LG2的建設，直接把LG1跟LG3連接起來。所以，LG2到今天還是一個接近不見天日的荒地，它被上面的LG1，跟旁邊的停車埸遮敝了，是一個陽光是很難照得到的地方。

And the floor of the building is in the following order: G, LG1, LG3, LG4, LG5, LG7. Did you notice something special? Yes, why it missed out LG2? In the urban legend, when the university was in the initial construction phases, LG2 was properly planned. However, when the workers were constructing LG2, there are a lot of incident and injuries, and some workers even dead mysteriously. So, finally, the university decided to skip LG2, and connect LG1 and LG3 directly. And that’s why LG2 is still a plain place which covered by LG1 from above and the car park from its side. In another wording, sun light is hardly light into LG2.

而大家都知道，年青人都是不怕鬼的，他們還比較怕交做功課呢。所以每年大學迎新營的時候，LG2基本上都是每組晚上私下的探險活動。組長們都要求新生首先要跳過旁邊停車埸的圍欄，然後幾個新生共用一枚手電筒進去LG2探險。

And as we all know, teenage don’t afraid of ghost, they even afraid of doing assignment more. So, in the University Orientation Camp every year, adventure in LG2 is almost a must try item for the groups as their night activity. And those group leaders always ask those freshmen to jump over the fence next to the carpark and divided few freshmen as a group and take only one single torch light and go in LG2 for the adventure.

有出過事情嗎? 傳說中有。據說有一年，有4位新生帶著一支電筒被迫向LG2進發，裏面一片漆黑的，他們不斷的沿著斜坡往上往下的走著，他們有點害怕有人走失，所以決定一個一個的往前面的人搭著肩膀走，就好像火車卡一樣。走著走著，最前面的一個想要確定沒有人走失了，所以他提議由他開始報數。1，2，3……之後應該是第4個報數的人大聲的尖叫了一聲，然後往前逃跑了。原來他一直都以為自己不是最後的一個，因為他一直都感到有人在搭他的肩膀。其他的3人不知道發生了什麼事，他們用電筒往後一照，竟然看到了一張血淋淋的臉孔。他們馬上瘋了一般不停的尖叫跟逃跑，不斷的叫救命。

Have anything ever happened? Yes, in urban legend, one year, there were 4 freshmen was asked to take their adventure in LG2 with 1 torch light. After they entered LG2, it was completely dark, and they walk along with the path up and down. And as they were afraid that someone will be missing, so they suggested that they should hold the shoulder of another one and line up straight and walk, just like a train. And as they walk by, the one at the front want to confirm that no one missed. So, he suggested that they should shout out the number one by one. And it started from him: 1, 2, 3……and when it should be the last one to shout “4”, he just screamed out and ran away. As he didn’t believe that he is the last one, he always felt that someone was holding his shoulder along the walk. And the rest of the 3 freshmen have no idea what’s wrong, so they use the torch light to light their behind. And they see a person with bloody face standing right behind them. And these 3 freshmen screamed and ran and ran.

他們的組長在入口等了很久，最後見到那3個人瘋了一般跑出來，就知道不妙。他們問那三個新生還有一個人去了那兒，但那三個新生吓得都不懂說話。最後好幾組的組長，大概十幾個人一起進去找那個新生，結果終於在一個很角落的角落找到了那名新生。找到他的時候，他只懂得說“不要，不要”。

And their group leaders were waiting at the entrance, and they saw the 3 freshmen screamed and ran towards the entrance. When they ask them where another one is, the 3 freshmen couldn’t really talk as they were too scared. So, those leaders found more group leaders, to around 16 people, and went to LG2 to find that freshman. And finally, they found him in the most inner corner of LG2. When they found him, he just kept shouting “Please don’t! Please don’t!”

最後那名新生怎麼了？沒人知道。因為知情的人士都不肯詳細的說到底發生了什麼事。只知道自此之往LG2探險的人少了很多，什至有些迎新營出了指引說不要帶新生去LG2。

So, how was that freshman finally? No one knows, as for those related people they don’t tell the details on what was happened. What we can know is, after that, people visiting LG2 become less, and some orientation camp even issue instruction asking people not visiting LG2.

小弟有幸在大學期間在LG2走過一圈，我在那次沒有什麼靈異的體驗。不過大概是因為LG2是一個感覺很封閉的空間吧，我在那裏一直覺得很恍惚，很不現實。除此之外，只能說LG2很明顯的有工程的痕硛， 山坡有被開鑿過，地盤的工字鐵也有被打入石中。但真的不知道到底為了什麼原因，而把這一整個樓層的工程擱置到今。

And I was lucky that I have been visited LG2 when I studied in HKUST, and I don’t really meet ghost or see something special. However, maybe because LG2 is feeling like a closed area, I feel kind of unconscious and unreal. Besides that, what I can say is I can saw LG2 have obvious construction work done. I can saw the mountain had been chiseled, and steel root have dump on the land. I really have no idea on what is the reason for the construction stopped for the whole floor until today.

啊，對了，你有沒有發覺文章中第三段的另一個特別的地方？對，就是科大也沒有LG6啊！這也有一個傳說，不過這大概是另一個故事了。

Oh, yes. Do you find another special thing in paragraph 3? Yes, which is HKUST also don’t have LG6! There is an urban legend about it, but this would be another story.
