The Long Road to Amazon
Well, it's taken almost two years, but China Weird: 10,000 Years of Strangeness is finally available for pre-order on Amazon.com.
It all started when a radio host named Tim Binnall was looking for information about the paranormal in China. Tim had been running, hosting and doing everything else necessary for Binnall of America, a podcast about the strange and the paranormal for eight years. He realized that while he had some of the top guests and luminaries of that field grace his show over the years, many as regulars, he still had a huge gap in coverage on the Far East.
Don't get me wrong, Binnall is not only the cutting edge of paranormal hosts, he has covered everything from man-eating horses to global conspiracies to UFOs. Titans from the field like Jim Marrs and Stanton Friedman appear on his show as regular guests. Such names as Lauren Coleman, Greg Bishop, Bruce Maccabbee, Bill Birnes, Nick Redfern--the list goes on--have appeared on Binnall of America. Still, he was oriented to the Orient.
A local listener in Shenzhen, China reached out to Tim during his quest to find "experts" in the paranormal from China to appear in a series of shows focusing on the Pacific Rim. That listener was my friend John. Together we tried to track down anyone who knew about the subject and could speak in English on a worldwide webcast. We came up squat.
It was then suggested that yours truly pick up the ball and run with it. Run I did, and managed to turn up a few interesting morsels. Not that I was an expert in the field of the paranormal or anything, but I had had a few personal run-ins with it. In addition to that, I'm a teacher and spend all day speaking in front of a group and entertaining them. I also have formal training in the theater. So we thought we could pull it off.
The show was spectacular, thanks largely to Tim's poise and aplomb as a host. He and I hit it off and just a had a great time, which was good for his listeners. After the show he suggested I write a book about this oft ignored corner of the paranormal universe, at least for Western audiences and researchers.
the result was almost two years of struggle to put together a marketable product. Perhaps the most important phase of that development was Steemit and all the Steemians who populate it. Reading, commenting, and appreciating my early efforts drove me to bring the project to actual completion.
