"Bitcoin fell for a fifth day, the longest losing streak in more than a year, after one of China’s largest online exchanges said it would stop handling trades by the end of the month amid a government crackdown on cryptocurrencies.

BTC China will immediately stop accepting new account registrations on its BTCChina Exchange, Chief Executive Bobby Lee said Thursday in a tweet. The decision was made after “carefully considering” the Sept. 4 announcement by Chinese regulators that outlawed initial coin offerings, he said.

A number of China’s top bitcoin exchanges are preparing to suspend their services following instructions from the government. BTC China, one of the country’s top three, became the first to officially make the move after it announced today that will stop all trading for China-based customers from September 30.

比特币中国表示，根据9月4日下发的《关于防范代币发行融资风险的公告》文件精神，秉承着防范投资风险，最大限度保障用户利益的原则，做出了两项决定：一是比特币中国数字资产交易平台今日起停止新用户注册；二是2017年9月30日数字资产交易平台将停止所有交易业务。而比特币中国的矿池（国池）等业务将不受此影响，继续正常运营。

9月4日下午，中国人民银行、中央网信办、工业和信息化部、工商总局、银监会、证监会和保监会联合发布《关于防范代币发行融资风险的公告》。《公告》称，任何组织和个人不得非法从事代币发行融资活动；停止各类代币发行融资活动；已完成代币发行融资的应当做出清退等安排。同时《公告》还要求加强代币融资交易平台的管理，任何所谓的代币融资交易平台不得从事法定货币与代币、“虚拟货币”相互之间的兑换业务，不得买卖或作为中央对手方买卖代币或“虚拟货币”，不得为代币或“虚拟货币”提供定价、信息中介等服务。
