Amazing Sunday Roast at “The Island” /

Recently, I had one of the best Sunday Roasts ever in an elegant family-friendly pub near to where I live. The pub restaurant is called The Island.

Tucked away just a short walking distance from both Kensal Rise and Kensal Green stations, The Island has a wonderful terraced area, perfect for some fun summer drinking and dining experiences.

There is a lot of space inside, consisting of three floors of seating area. The ground floor is a traditional pub area as you'd expect. Just overall cool, chilled atmosphere. It certainly feel likes a community hot spot as I see a lot of familiar faces from around the area. I've even seen the famous Rita Ora drinking there a few times as well as a few other well-known celebrities! The décor, soothing music playing in the background and relaxed clientele, almost guarantee a great night out at this place.

The basement level area is normally reserved for private parties or every Wednesday night when it holds open mic nights for talented local artists to sing or perform there.

Finally, there is a lovely restaurant situated on the first floor, also beautifully decorated which is exactly how I would want it. Warm and cozy in addition to being bright and airy.

The food served at The Island caters primarily for a British palate, offering up a combination of pub classics and traditional British dishes. Having a "homemade" feel but not skimping high quality, they can really pack in the flavours. The menus here do change seasonally in order to supply the best possible ingredients in all of their dishes. It's great for us to be able to try out so many different dishes, lol.

We had the Warm Sourdough Rye Loaf for starters. Oh my god, I did not expect this bread to tasted so delicious! A crunchy crust encasing a soft warm flavorsome interior with flakes of sea salt drizzled on top. Paired up with their creamy butter or olive oil balsamic vinegar, it was the perfect starter for the night!

For mains, I opted for the Roast Scottish Beef, which makes up a part of their Sunday Roast Menu. For people who are not familiar with Sunday Roast, this is a very traditional British meal that is only served on Sunday with Roast meat and vegetables. Get for when family and friends get together and people have time on their hands to share in some good food.

The roast beef was cooked really well, providing for amazing flavours in the meat. Juicy and succulent from every bite. The roast potato was crispy on the outside and creamy inside. Sides include honey roasted carrots, fresh cabbages and traditional Yorkshire puddings and gravy, making this the ultimate Sunday roast dinner gifted from the heavens!

@ezzy loves to enjoy almost anything "burger" related so we also ordered the Rare Breed British Burger. The burger meat was really juicy, soft and tender. You could totally tell this is quality meat packed inside those two brioche buns. It comes with skin on fries with "Bovril" mayonnaise. All in all, a fantastic dining experience that just keeps on getting better!

The desserts we went for were Hazlenut Chocolate Fondant and Strawberry & Vanilla Icecream, both of which were out of this world!

Though for me, the clear winner is definitely the rich, gooey chocolate fondant. There is nothing quite like the anticipation of digging your spoon into the center of that delicious fondant, lol! I seriously think it is the best!

The food in the Island was splendid throughout! There are also a good selection of local beers and ales on tap, including the Portobello Star and Camden Hells.

Service was friendly and efficient. Worth mentioning is that it is family and dog friendly too!. So perfect for a relaxing stop over on a nice summers day.

Overall, The Island is a perfect local pub & restaurant complete with a great friendly vibe and lots of character. It truly is a little slice of paradise in the heart of Kensal Rise. Most definitely a local favourite of mine!

Wow, the food looks so delicious! :D

yep I agree, and perfect set of light

Thank you. :)

Not bad!

The roast beef dinner is such a tradition, even in Canada as a lot of our ancestors were from the British Isles. The food and atmosphere in this pub look out of this world. How were the wait times?

Hello @cecicastor, the waiting time was about 15-20 minutes so not too bad! Sunday roast is such a comfort food I will never be bored of it, lol.

Rea, everything looks lovely, but I especially like the traditional Yorkshire puddings and gravy. I ate it once in Yorkshire by the way. It was the first and only time and it was more than 30 years ago, but I never forgot. Maybe because I read about it in the Netherlands, before I ate it in the UK.
Thanks for sharing this story.

Coming to London and I will take you there, lol.

Looks delicious:)

Amazing!! I want to shipwreck on that island!

Lol, come!!
