didn't know this until I saw that bakery shop.
The Japanese learned how to make Tempura from the Portugese.
I thought that was only a way to show the Japanese themselves at that time were 'westernised' but didn't know it was exactly from the Portugese.
Now it appears to me the Portugese had a massive sailing empire and a strong influence over other cultures or ethnic groups.
