So today I am going to make a model of a generator for the SteemSTEM science fair

今天我要做一個發電機的模型來參加博覽會

So this is the product, it looks definitely different from a generator but when you spin it , it does produce electricity :)

這個就是製成品,雖然完全不像一個發電機,可是當你轉他的時候真檢測到有電。


This project is conducted by me and my secondary schoolmate called percy :) So let's talk about the major principle for the model. Actually it is quite simply applied flemming's right hand rule. >這個模型是由我跟我的中學同學percy做的,其實這個模型背後的原理非常簡單,只是運用了菲林明右手定則的原理。

When there is a magnetic field exist which does not parallel to the motion of coil inside it. Current will be induced according to Fleming's right hand rules. Therefore we decided to use the case of chips to be the case of our model , with strong magnet attached to it to produce magnetic field.

根據菲林明右手定則,當磁場的方向跟線圈移動的方向並非平行,電流就會產生。所以我們決定用薯片罐綁上強力磁石來製造磁場。

And then we made a coil with some copper wire,and fixed them on a metal rod. Also we made holes on the cover and the bottom of the case, for the rod to spin.

然後用銅線製作線圈,把他固定在鐵條上,再在蓋子跟地部鑽出洞來讓鐵條穿過.

After that we find out a problem which is difficult to spin the rod. But then we realized that the motion of the principle can be relative motion , which means we can spin the case or the rod with the other one fixed.

然後我們發現很難把鐵條轉動,後來我們發現定律裡面的線圈的移動可以是相對的,因此我們決定轉動罐子來發電。


Well at last we used a multimeter to test the current produced.We found that is just 0.03to 0.06 A, no matter how fast we spin the case . We think the problem is the distance of coil and magnet is too far and also the magnet is not strong enough(even it cost 100HKD/pieces) but nevermind at least we successfully produced current :)

最後我們檢測出來的電流只有0.03 至0.06安培,無論如何轉動罐子也無法再增大電流,我們覺得問題出在線圈跟磁石的距離太大(因為用的薯片罐不是訂造的)還有磁石不夠強(雖然已經每塊要100港幣)。不過至少我們成功產生電流:)
