RE: Hong Kong Snapshot (34) (With Video)Sheung Wan(5) – Lascar Row, origin from a story of Indians in HK being sold and killed 香港随拍(34) (附有视频)上环(5) – 摩罗上街,源于一段印度人被卖猪仔的故事

I am just curious - what is the meaning for each of the chinese "letters" on the street sign "Upper Lascar Row"?

Sort:

摩 means rub. 羅 has many meanings, mostly for a net or a surname of chinese. But 摩羅 has the pronunciation "Mouro" and it means Indian in Cantonese around 100 years ago
上 means upper
街 means street, and it means Row in this case

Thank you very much! Very interesting 😊
