貴州扶貧項目學習服務旅程1 Guizhou Service Learning Trip: Poverty Alleviation Programme

Today, I would like share my trip in Guizhou to all of you guys!
I took the trip to Guizhou for my Service Learning course in last December. The trip mainly focused on the projects and the development of the rural area in Guizhou. In the past, Guizhou was a poor province, not to mention compared to some Chinese developed areas like Shenzhen, Shanghai. Yet, it has developed rapidly in recent years.

在2017年年尾時，我隨學校到貴州銅仁的思南縣，了解一下現時貴州的發展。相比起上海，深圳，貴州在以前是較為落後的一個地區，只算是二線的城市，但近年發展得很快。

Let’s me introduce a Poverty Alleviation Programme in Sinan Xian, Project of Planting Camellia:

第一篇就先介紹一下其中一個扶貧項目-山茶樹種植計劃:

The first place is in Ying Wu Xi, Sinan Xian, around 800 meters high, a planting base of Camellia. This project is a Poverty Alleviation Programme funded by the local government. The objective is to develop a local agriculture industry, enhancing agriculture which makes better use of poverty alleviation resources and takes targeted measures to ensure that assistance reaches poverty-stricken villages.

第一個的地方是思南縣海拔880米的鸚鵡溪山茶油種植基地，這個山茶油培植養苗計劃，是當地的一個扶貧項目。在聽到縣長講解後，才知道這個計劃是經當局審批撥款，目的是通過產業發展農業，達到精準扶貧。

Town mayors can apply budget for Poverty Alleviation Project. If the project is approved, they can get thirty thousand dollars per villager as poverty alleviation fund to operate the project. For this project, the government bought land, and hire local farmers to plant Camellia. Farmers were taught how to plant camellia. When there is a profit, farmers can get a bonus.

縣長可申請撥款扶貧項目，而項目經審批後，以每人三萬元人民幣作標準，注入扶貧基金，以供運作項目。這個項目，由政府買地，聘請當地的農民耕種，並提供耕種的知識，當有利潤時就會分紅給農民。

Farmers used machines to dig holes. Then, they apply Phosphate fertilizer, mixing with soil, providing a suitable environment for planting seedlings afterward.

農民首先用挖洞的機器挖洞，其後以人手把有機磷肥倒進洞中，再混和泥土，準備稍後將山茶樹的苗放入洞中。

The distance of each hole is around three meters and two feet deep. Normally, the first harvest is in year five, which is quite long. Yet, the harvest cycle can last more than ten years.

每個洞距離約三米，洞深兩呎，山茶樹種五年才可收成，但一棵山茶樹會有十多年的收成期。

This large area of land is developed for the project. Part of farmland was used to plant some low economic value of plants e.g. Potato and chili. Farmers can earn higher income through planting camellia in the project.

這一大片的地是新開闢的。舊有的地，農民本來只用作種一些經濟價值較低的農作物，如薯仔和辣椒等，透過這個種山茶樹的計劃，農民可以賺取較高的收入。

After a site inspection, my teacher pointed out that the place was suitable to plant camellia. However, nitrogen, a nutrition for plants, may not be adequate for the growth of camellia, which may result in less amount of camellia and output of camellia oil. Since the camellia oil is used for cooking, it is not appropriate to use chemical fertilizer to add the amount of nitrogen. It is suggested that planting nitrogen-fixing plants eg peanuts near camellia, which can fix nitrogen from air to the soil.

老師在視察後，指出當地的土壤適合種植山茶油，只是在種植的過程中氮含量可能會不夠，而氮則是令植物的收成更好，不夠氮會使山茶籽的出油量和收成量有所減低。由於成品的山茶油供人進食，不想用化肥加氮，所以建議他們以共生的概念，在種植山茶樹時，在周圍種植固氮植物，例如花生等，以自然的方法，把空氣中的氮吸取到泥土上，讓山茶樹種得更好。

There was an enclosed pig farm near the planting base. It is managed by Wens, a largest pig and chicken raising enterprise in China. It had a standard of procedure for operation.

在種植基地的附近有一個密封式的豬場，是不可以進去參觀。經了解後才知是以溫氏集團管理的，有標準的肉豬養殖程序。而溫氏集團是中國最大的肉雞和肉豬養殖企業。

Also, there was a pig excrement treatment site. Pig excrement was transported to there through tubes. It mixed with rice seed cone, stirred by the machine twice a day. Finally, it can be used as fertilizer after half and a year.

外面是一個豬糞處理場，有管道直接把豬糞運到這裡，豬糞混合米糠，每天用機器翻攪兩次，發酵後約一年半可作肥料。

This is the first time for me to have a touch on farming. We seldom have chance to know farming in HK. The world is great and knowledge is endless, we should keep learning and expose ourselves to different cultures.

這是我第一次接觸農業，平時在香港很少機會接觸農業的知識，世界很大，真的要多接觸一下自己領域外的知識。
