到香港摩星嶺看日落|Hiking at Mount Davis, Hong Kong

今天，恩師帶團到摩星嶺踏青。召集了他的學生和朋友一行50人以上，浩浩蕩蕩地上山。

摩星嶺位於香港島的西北方，是個臨海的小山，只有2百多米高。

I went hiking with my teacher today. We were a big group of over 50 people. We went to Mount Davis which is located at the northwest of Hong Kong Island. It is a small hill, its height is 269m.

行走途中我地先經過西環邨，是香港島第三老的公營房屋。比其他新的公營房屋矮了不少。

We passed through Sai Wan Estate, it is the third oldest public housing in Hong Kong Island. It is really short compare with newer public housing.

西環邨的一部分位於加多近街，是紀念英國官員賈德幹爵士而得名。因香港是前英國殖民地，香港很多地方的名稱來自英國官員。

A part of Sai Wan Estate is located at Cadogan Street. The name of the street come from a british official, Sir Alexander Cadogan. As Hong kong was a conlony of Britain, many places named as British officials.

這地區叫堅尼地城。這個名字是紀念香港第七任總督堅尼地，他積極於上環填海，而填出來地方就叫堅尼地城。

This area is called Kennedy Town. Kennedy is the name of the 7th governor of Hong Kong. He initiated the reclamation at this place.

搭1號巴士在摩星嶺道下車。在馬路對面的是已經清拆的白屋，以前是用來關政治犯的地方。

This demolished building is called "white house" as it was white. It was a place to imprison political prisoner.

走前一點可以看到摩星嶺徑的入口。摩星嶺在二戰時期是個英軍在香港的西邊指揮總部，是一個看得到戰爭遺跡的地方。摩星嶺附近有一坐山叫西高山，又名摩天嶺。有人說因為摩星嶺比較矮，所以叫它摩星嶺。

Here is the entry point of Mount Davis Path. Mount Davis was the the Island Western Artillery Command Headquarter during WW2. The name Mount Davis came from the 2nd governor of Hong Kong.

在摩星嶺入口走上一點，在山邊的返地面處有一個鐵環，如果不留心會看到的。這個鐵環有甚麼用處呢？我等一下才告訴你們。

走不久就看到一個英軍的指揮部。

It was a command post.

這是個9.2吋口徑的大炮炮台。在摩星嶺有5個這樣的炮台。剛才說過的鐵環用在搬運大炮時固定大炮。以前用人手搬大炮，大炮重超過20噸。士兵把大炮放到板上，板下放木頭，慢慢把大炮向前拉/推。住前了一點就把大炮固定在鐵環，以免大炮往後墬。

This was a battery for 9.2 inch guns. There are 5 gun batteries on Mount Davis. The metal ring was for holding guns. The guns weighted over 20 tons. Soldiers need to transport the guns by themselves. They put the guns on a board and put woods under it. The soldiers rolled the guns up the hill. While rolling, they lock the guns to prevent they fall down the hill.
