The Dai people (Burmese: ရှမ်းလူမျိုး; Tai Lü: ᨴᩱ/ᨴᩱ᩠ᨿ; Lao: ໄຕ; Thai: ไท; Shan: တႆး, [tai˥˩]; Tai Nuea: ᥖᥭᥰ, [tai˥]; Chinese: 傣族; pinyin: Dǎizú) refers to several Tai-speaking ethnic groups living in the Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture and the Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture of China's Yunnan Province. The Dai people form one of the 56 ethnic groups officially recognized by the People's Republic of China. By extension, the term can apply to groups in Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar when Dai is used to mean specifically Tai Yai, Lue, Chinese Shan, Tai Dam, Tai Khao or even Tai in general.

Raw, fresh, sour, and spicy are the characteristics of Dai cuisine. Dai people believe that eating sour foods can make their eyes bright, help digestion, and also help relieve heat. Sweet can remove fatigue. Spicy can increase appetite. Acid is considered the most delicious flavor in Dai cuisine, and all dishes and snacks are mainly sour, such as sour bamboo shoots, sour pork.

The first photo is the special delicacy of Menghai County --- Peacock Dinner.Which consists of 12 dishes, including pineapple glutinous rice, roast meat platter , colorful rice noodles, Dai's haoluosuo, lemongrass grilled fish, various fruits and Dai's pastries. The dishes are very rich.

In addition to food, the environment of this restaurant is also very distinctive; there is a pond next to the restaurant, and many tropical giant freshwater fish are raised in the pond.But I have forgotten what the species of fish is called.

Pounding chicken feet and pounding papaya and mango are also local specialties.Fresh, sour, and spicy, the taste is very special, if you can go to Xishuangbanna, you must try it.(But I guess many people can't accept chicken feet.😅You can choose other ingredients if you mind.)

People in Yunnan like to eat a bowl of steaming rice noodles in the morning no matter what the season is. I also experienced it once, which is very exciting.

This is roasted plantain flowers, a bit spicy for me, but very crisp and tender, worth a try.I also ordered beer with this dish at the night market with my friends.
