Pakistan is a culturally diverse land. Pakistan came into existence in 1947 and adopted a variety if cultures from different groups of people. Even today we have people of many religions living harmoniously amongst each other. 18th March is celebrated all over the world as well as in Pakistan as the day of ‘Holi’ by Hindus. Similarly, we all celebrated this cultural event with our Hindu brothers and sisters in harmony in our University which is known as ‘Jinnah Sindh Medical University.’ Before moving on its important for all of you to know what Holi is. Holi is celebrated as an event of love and the festival of colors in which people apply colors on each other as a sign of love.
We all were excited for this day. All of us had dressed resplendently to show our enthusiasm for this event. Our medical school is a torturous place for all of us but for one day we were ready to forget all of it and enjoy ourselves. The day started with the students planting the special 'Holi Pot' filled with colors on a rope which was high enough. The main purpose of planting this pot at such a height is to make sure no one can reach it by himself, but take help from others, thus creating a friendly bond. Holi festival at JSMU
This is where all the fun began. It was ecstatic, it was crazy. All of us were soo indulged in painting each other with color that for a moment we felt there wasn't a worry in our lives. There wasn't just color that we applied on each other. There was colored water, different sort of colored sprays and much more.
This continued for atleast an hour. The teachers joined in as well. For the first time we were witnessing such collaboration, such alliance. It was beautiful to witness. But wait, that wasn't it. We still had a lot of fun after all this. Lets read below.
After the festival in the university premises had ended, we all boarded a bus which was waiting for us outside the gates, ready to take us to the beach to further celebrate in the 'Rung Party. It was overwhelming. Too good to be to be true, but we were trying our luck and played along. The bus ride was of approximately an hour. We reached at the Turtle Beach at 3 pm and settled ourselves in the hut. The rung party started as soon as we hit the sand.
At the beach, we had tons of colored powder available to throw at each other. We ran straight into the water with powder in our hands. We painted the water red and blue and orange. Everyone was teying to throw colors on each other. Obviously none of us wanted to be covered fully in color so we were running for our lives. It felt as if we were inside a ring and a bull was trying to catch us. The adrenaline rush was formidable. After the rung party we all changed in our fresh dresses and devoured on lunch.
It was so heartwarming to see these medical students enjoy like this. Honestly speaking we don't get enough time for ourselves. The work routine is very hectic. Apart from the studies there are students like me who are trying their luck elsewhere as well, for instance, steemit. So even if it was for a single day, I'd cherish this event for the rest of my life.
Ending this article with this picture which means a lot to me. In this picture you can see how happy and how content we all are. Even with burden laden on backs, we still manage to smile.
