Curious about the conservative wins in the European elections?

One element to keep in mind is what political scientist Roger Pielke, Jr., has dubbed the Iron Law of Climate Policy: When policies focused on economic growth confront policies focused on emissions reductions, it is economic growth that will win out every time.

Climate activists face a dilemma of their own making. As long as they oppose finding ways to economically grow toward reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, they will, ironically, be postponing the achievement of their GHG reduction goal, because too much of the public will continue to oppose them.

And, no, their claims that green energy will create jobs does not count as promoting economic growth. Developed countries as a whole have no shortage of jobs, and the fact that green energy requires more labor than fossil fuel energy is evidence that it retards economic growth. It's the equivalent of getting rid of advanced farming equipment and going back to harvesting crops by hand.
